Legal tampering period Monday, so basically we've got 4 days to go. As of Monday we'll have all kinds of information to work with finally thank fuck. So who are your target/s for our newest members in horns?

And yeah, I know the Rams are going to try to maximize potential for comp picks next year. So while that will limit things that's no fun so let's focus on who we like as options, the guys we hope the Rams are linked to come Monday at noon. My preferences...

1. ILB Kwiatkoski. Match made in heaven for us as he knows our defense, has played for our new DC, fills hard vs the run, and is ok vs the pass. There are some other options that I like too at ILB in this FA group but this is the guy I want to see us chasing. Should be cheaper than Littleton and a better fit, and takes the edge off the positional need in the draft.

2. C McGovern. This might not happen if the Rams plan on positioning for one of several Centers in the draft. But he's not a top player and shouldn't be in that top range in pay, and his signing would single handedly simmer things down on our interior OL. His limitations in the run game should be minimized with our projected OG starters next to him.

Notable positions where there will be really nice depth plus Rams' need are OG and FS. OG is going to have exceptional quality and a lot of options but the Rams probably are comfortable enough that they'll opt to address Center instead. FS looks exceptional as well, at least in projecting who will hit the market, and I don't like the FS options in this draft, but I don't think the need is sufficient to where the Rams will chase it.

5T is a need and there will be options to include fits like Wolfe but in prioritizing things it's hard to see the Rams pursuing that over C or ILB.

For the PFF lovers (of which I am not a member (n)) here's a list that ranks out the Free Agents through the use of their rankings. I will admit it's sort of useful, provided you don't get too hung up on the scores (note you can sort it nicely):

There aren't a lot of options when you don't have the cap space to overspend.

The first thing is they should be close to a deal with Whitworth. The sooner they sign him the better or have a gentleman's agreement. If that's the plan. They could be negotiating with Blythe as well both as a gage of cost and a backup plan.

1. ILB Kwiatkoski.
2. C McGovern.

These seem like the logical choices, Both still in there prime and not top tier free agents that are way overpriced. Danny Trevathan although injury prone and older (almost 30) could be a one or two year stop gap at ILBer. He knows the system and could be cheaper.

Rams could go in many directions at OC. McGovern would be an improvement hopefully at a reasonable price for a free agent. I"m not sure the Rams have given up on Brian Allen even if most here have.

Surprised at the low response. Could be not many good choices.

I'm having second thoughts on McGovern.

I thought he would be more in the 6 to 8 Million range but, I guess not. An interesting article calling for 10-11 Million which is a lot.

NFL: Denver Broncos at Houston Texans

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports
Connor McGovern has been an anchor on the Denver Broncos offensive line the last two seasons, while the spots next to him have been revolving doors. That kind of stability as the team looks to continue building their offensive line is going to be key, but McGovern heads into the 2020 offseason slated to become an unrestricted free agent.
Should the Broncos pursue McGovern and try to maintain some continuity on their offensive line as Drew Lock enters his second NFL season?
What kind of contract could he get
This could get pricey for the Broncos. If we take the market value for a center like Matt Skura of the Baltimore Ravens, we could be looking somewhere near 4-yrs and $40 million for McGovern to stick around in Denver. In fact, you might want to bump that number up a little as McGovern ranks above Skura in some free agent rankings out there.
Skura finished with a Pro Football Focus overall grade of 68.7, while McGovern finished slight above at 71.9 if you need something with a grade. The fact of the matter is, the Broncos might need to pony upwards of $11 million a year to keep McGovern in the orange and blue.
Why the Broncos should sign him
Continuity and versatility.
The offensive line is definitely in flux as they work to bring that unit back to something that isn’t bottom in the league. Keeping McGovern on the roster would denote one less position they have to worry about heading into training camp and the regular season.
Also, the fact that McGovern can play guard opens up the possibility of flexing him back to that position if the need arose.
Why the Broncos shouldn’t sign him
Cost.

It’s tough to think Denver couldn’t just draft a center in the third or fourth rounds to replace McGovern and have it work out okay. Dropping $11 million a year on the center position just feels a bit too rich for a team trying to build a roster back into a contender.
This might be the toughest decision John Elway has to make this offseason in weighing the financial costs to the need for quality starters on the offensive line.
Final word
This one is tough. I feel like they could save money here by targeting a center in the middle rounds of the 2020 NFL Draft. However, that would be a huge risk considering there isn’t much of an option at the position behind McGovern right now. His position versatility too is something that must be strongly consider as well.
Would you be comfortable with John Elway dropping $11 million a year on McGovern to lock down the center position for the next several years or should he spend those cap dollars elsewhere?

I don’t think the Rams are going to sign any outside FA.
Not one.
May see some of our own resigned.

Hope that's not how it goes. Even if they manage to sign some of our own FAs I think that will be the first step in settling into a non-contender status.

This roster wasn't good enough last season. If they stand pat even just on the OL it won't be good enough in 2020 IMO.

Some of that to be determined with young players on the roster, but, generally I agree.
I just don’t see the Rams having the capital to bring in impact players.
Maybe the bean counter can take some time away from ruining the Rams logo to figure something out.
Hope I’m wrong too.

Hearing from a fairly reliable source here that the Cardinals will be targeting Littleton AND Brockers.
F me.
Makes sense though.
Improve your roster and weaken a division rival.
Fowler made sense to team with Jones outside.
Could certainly see them going after Littleton and Brockers though.

The Rams are weakening themselves do to cap limitation. If the Cardinals outbid the Rams that would mean they are weakening the rival Rams. The Rams don't appear to be ready to bid for their services. Fowler and Brockers will get signed somewhere if not by the Cardinals. The Cardinals would sign them because they are good players that they know up close. They will overpay them. I would hate to see those two in Cardinal uniforms.

Never fails to suck when a team falls behind in OL development....

I just don’t see the Rams acquiring any top tier outside FA’s. I see a 1 year Snead hiatus on such expensive moves as he allows our cap room to ‘catch up’ in prep for Kupp and JJ signings. Besides, Rams already have a nice core of elite type players (plus Gurley and Cooks, both uncuttable or untradable).

I do see Snead signing some 2nd tier FA’s to plug holes so that he will be more free to draft BPA’s at his picks.

I could actually see Rams allowing Brockers, Fowler, Littleton, and GZ all to walk. Maybe even Whit, too, if he’s asking too much OR if they feel comfortable that Boom will be ready by September. Seriously.

Snead will trade down in the draft, probably more than once depending on how he’s stacked his board and how ‘his’ players are coming off of it.

Our first pick will probably NOT be an OL player. If both Fowler and Littleton walk then OL will not be our biggest need. And I now think that it is highly likely that both will take bigger offers elsewhere. Hope neither stays in our division.

I suspect that Staley will have huge impact in FA and draft priority decisions, as he should be. I expect a very heavy D oriented draft.

A RB could very well be among our mid-draft picks, depending on who falls (3rd or 4th round), despite other obvious Ram needs. Again, I’m serious.

I expect Staley to come up with a top 7 D, despite losing Fowler and Littleton.

Don’t be surprised if the Rams pounce on a WR a bit earlier than expected in this WR rich draft. Would be a shame not to take advantage, don’t you think?

I know we all want the Rams to improve the offensive line with free agents and draft picks. However, they were right in the playoff mix last year despite all that went wrong. McVay didn't use Gurley properly, missed FG and offensive line injuries. On the optimistic side if Havenstein comes back close to 2018 version and Whitworth stays even with last year or a little better the Rams are set at OT in 2020. As you have stated competition is needed on the offensive line. The Rams will have Corbett, Evans, Edwards, Allen, Shelton and Brewer to compete for the OG and OC spots as well swing players with Noteboom when he returns. The Rams could add to the mix with an early draft pick who can be a starter. These young players with some getting experience last year which leads me to believe they will all improve with a year on NFL offseason conditioning. I too would like to see a free agent addition but, if not I think they can make it work. Even though everyone says the Rams offense is a run-first to set up the pass they can be a pass-first offense to set up the run as well.

Snead rolled sixes signing 2nd tier FAs during the 2017 free agency:

Excellent: Whitworth (LT), Sullivan (C), NRC (DB), Woods (WR)
Good: Dunbar (RB)
OK: Webster (DB)

I don't expect splash FA signings but I'm hoping we'll find at least solid impact players, especially with the O-line.

I just hope we don't lose any more comp picks by signing other team's free agents. The Rams might be in for a big payday of good comp picks if we lose Brockers, Littleton, and Fowler.
