Jones is relevant because of the old style scheme Morris plays. Morris plays with a zero T NT that is supposed to eat up blockers and allow the MIKE to take on the RBs in the A gaps.
Here are a could others---you can see SJD on 0-t and slanting ... And Gaines as a 0-as well
both are from 2020

Just thought EJ looked fantastic yesterday.

I thought he looked bad a couple weeks back.. but he was on it against Ravens, imo.

His blitzing ability is real. Some ILBs don't have the instincts or timing for it. Feels like a lot of his blitzes produce good pressures.

Jourdan confirmed he played a couple of games he maybe shouldn't have -- not 100% after injury.

Just salivating over the idea of him doing that with an elite edge added to the front.

Compare Jones run stopping ability to Roquan Smith last week.

It's night and day. One guy gets washed out a lot, the other guy is constantly destroying plays.

The instincts, shedding ability and impact of Jones is OK in my opinion.

I understand Smith is dam near the best at his position but it is worth noting what the impact looks like when you have an elite player there.

Jones does a nice job when blitzing however. Doesn't get home that often but does generate pressure most of the time.

I am fine rolling with Jones. We have bigger fish to fry at the moment.

For shits and grins, PFF has Jones at 73.4 (Warner at 90 and Wagner and Smith in the 80's)

Jones is serviceable. Can't have All Pro's at every position.

Yeah.. teams have their different roster-building philosophies.

Smith cost them a second & 5th… and a huge contract.

For the value, I’ll take Jones.

Also… FWIW… Same amount of tackles.. Jones had 2 more solo tackles.. and the Rams shut down the Ravens running game.

Jackson’s yards came on scrambles, not runs.

Wasn't Smith a top 5 pick?

You'd want him to be elite compared to a 3rd round pick.

Warner is also elite and was of similar round iirc. But yeah you can't hit every pick out of the park. Also the shitters have had a knack for unearthing backers for a while now. Very irritating.

Ernest Jones is good versus the run. He makes a lot of plays in the backfield.

I don't think he will make Pro Bowl (Warner and Wagner) but he will be an alternate
IMO, for whatever that is worth ... he's a 2nd tier off the ball linebacker, IMO

Jones is very solid, nowhere near a concern. If we get to a place where he is our weak link on D that problem will be buried behind Lombardi Trophy’s

This guy is a stud. He jumps off the screen on defense, especially when he blitzes the quarterback.

What we could use is a difference making hybrid ILB/Nickel next to Jones. This would boost our ability to snuff out underneath BS vs the Shitters and also upgrade our coverage ability and give the DC more flexibility out of the base look.

Our mindset with WILB is that it's a waste to draft it, which is mostly true. Unless you add a guy who can stay on the field 3 downs and snuff out RBs in the pass game or shadow running QBs. If for example we were to take Jeremiah Trotter round 2 and pair him with Jones he'd see a ton of action and be a big upgrade.

Doubt the Rams do that of course. But I always want a dominant defense and part of that equation is having enough guys who can perform in different roles and situations. Speedy and sure tacklers with a nose for the ball are still in vogue and will always be in this division.

McVay----

(On how working with Seahawks LB Bobby Wagner, studying and being a
student of the game has helped LB Ernest Jones make all the plays that
he’s made this year)
“I think Ernest would be better equipped to answer in terms of…I know Bobby
had a tremendous influence just watching his everyday approach and his
preparation, but Ernest is extremely conscientious. I think one of his things is
he's got a great concept trigger. He really has a good understanding of what to
expect and anticipate. And really, he and (Linebackers Coach) Chris Shula
have such a cool relationship in terms of their weekly rhythm. It's why he's got
the dot.

He's really starting to understand and own the intent of, alright, why is
(Defensive Coordinator) Raheem (Morris) or the defensive coaches calling
certain things? What are we really trying to get out of it? And it's all
encompassing to the run game, to the pass game, to protections. And he’s
been outstanding, but I thought it was a great example for him to be able to
have Bobby to see what that really looks like.

You guys have heard me talk
about it, there's nothing more powerful than seeing and really somebody
modeling the way. And obviously, we know what a pro's pro Bobby is but I think
Ernest has really done a great job of continuing to take his game in the right
direction and then just his overall charisma and presence and the way that he
elevates people.

He's got such an authentic play energy that I think has been
instrumental in a lot of good things, not only for the defense, but for our team.
One of the coolest things Kirk Herbstreit mentioned to me after the game was
watching how excited Ernest gets for the offensive guys and just this team and
the connection. And Ernest is certainly one of those great representations of
that and I've really been super proud and happy for the things that he's done
and we got to keep it going.”

He has changed my mind. He’s become a very good middle linebacker. He’s no Ray Lewis but he fits this defensive scheme well and seems like a real leader on the field.

Dude is only 24 years old !!

He basically made the defensive play to win a Superbowl as a rookie.
Has been mentored & played next (with)to one of the best MLb in the NFL.

Has now taken over as The Rams Leader on Defense!!!

I’d say he has a nice long career & is only getting better.Has the drive, desire & love for the game & The Rams organization!!

—Yeah - it’s hard to be a Ray Lewis, but he hasn’t helped kill anybody & his body of work at his age is better than Lewis though.

EJ has played at an all pro level these past several games. His blitzing efficiency has made a very positive impact on our defense and forced offenses to recognize and account for him blitzing. Solid A for EJ this season he continues to impress.

Jones deserves an extension. He's been a rock in the middle, he's one of the best blitzing inside linebackers in the league, he's solid in coverage, and he has the dot.

We'll regret it if he leaves next year.
