Taylor to the Rams was discussed on Sirius today. They said how McVay loved Gurley and Akers hasn't been that. Akers to Indy plus draft picks would be ideal per Sirius. McSnead would have to make it work financially.

Taylor wants out b/c he wants the bag on his second contract. Generally speaking, said contract for RBs has been shown to be less than ideal over the last 5 or so years in the NFL.

Why after being a cautionary tale for the rest of the NFL with the Gurley contract would the Rams do this again?

I don't see it...

We've covered a lot of reasons why it wouldn't be a good idea to pick up Taylor but let me add another...

I'm not a huge Akers fan at this point but with a semi healthy line towards the end of the season, all his metrics were pretty damn good.

I think we should run the kid into the ground and see if he can duplicate the last half of the season last year when he was one of the better backs through the last 3 (or was it 5) games.

And we can do it all for no new contract and no draft picks.

Yeah, no. We're actually in a pretty good place right now. Akers is playing for a new contract and will be very motivated to put significant numbers up this year.
So the Rams will get a ton of production from a guy on his rookie deal and we can then reevaluate the RB position next year when we have ample cap space.
Sounds like a good plan to me....

Taylor is significantly better than Akers. Now maybe Akers is in for a big season, and I do subscribe to that thinking. But if they were to bring Taylor in I would be very happy. Even though I doubt it will happen for numerous reasons, those being timing on our rebuild, other teams being able to beat us in trade discussions, etc.

We cannot afford to give up that first round pick. If LT is good we'll need it for edge. If not we'll need it for LT. Of course McVay will probably take a WR but we can't have everything where would we put it all. :laugh4:

Taylor is a 2 down back... yes he's a better pure runner than Akers, absolutely, but he can't catch the ball for sh*t.

What a waste to bring him in.

Cam Akers best year receiving is still worse than JT’s worst year. In fact, Todd Gurley has two season better receiving that JTs best, and he had Sean McVay and a Super Bowl quality team. Give that scheme to JT and it’s a different story.

I’m not for bringing him in. I think Akers gets deserves a prove it year, but I wouldn’t say JT can’t catch for shit

Have you watched JT play, seen him used as a receiver?

Are we honestly gonna compare Gurley's ability as a receiver to JT's? You think putting him in this system will magically make his hadns better or his ability to run a route better and more diverse?

A guy that can put up those kjnd of numbers should be a fit for every team. A good coach should be able to figure out how to best use his tools to get maximum production.

Should the Rams do whatever it takes to get him? No, for all the reasons that have already been pointed out.

I wouldn't say he can't catch the ball for shit. It's possible Indy didn't use him that way? Its a good trade as long as super high draft picks aren't involved.

I’m comparing a production standpoint, not ability. Gurley had top 10 all time ability.

The dude put up over 300 yards receiving. He may not be Marshall Faulk, but it’s not like he’s not useful on pass catching

Why would they trade for a position they are already good with? The only way I see the Rams not taking a QB is if their targeted player is grabbed before them. The only way to insure that is to trade up the 31 spots they will have to climb. They will need their picks.

Have we learned nothing?
Nope.

Taylor would fit any team that can and wants to run the ball. Most of the run centric teams already have not only a starter but one or two guys lined up behind him.

Any team that pays a 1st round pick then pays him top end money is just begging to have a new GM next year. IMO

Isn't he injured too?

He was hurt last year and part of this whole situation is he won't rehab at the teams facility. Even if a team trades for him he has to pass a physical that he allegedly cannot pass/wont take
