I have put it on the record several times that I think it was a big mistake to let Saffold go. I would have matched what the Chargers gave him. I think Saffold would have been worth every penny. I will not repeat my lengthy reasons here when a brief summary can suffice - pro bowl level play currently, can play multiple positions on the line, good attitude and veteran leader to help our many young linemen along, the Rams having little depth on the o-line, continuity on the o-line being important, Saffold still being young enough that he should have a number of productive years left, Goff in particular not showing to be comfortable under pressure thus far in his career, injuries seemingly hitting the o-line more than other positions (the Rams have been very fortunate in recent years in this regard). The list goes on.
I still think letting Saffold go might just cost the Rams the season. Although I expect the Rams to do quite well regardless. Time will tell.
Ultimately, as fans, all we can do is hope for the best and enjoy the games as they come for the entertainment they provide. We have no control over the situation.
I will say that this regime has generally shown strong ability to let players go at the right time. And that their pickups have generally exceeded my expectations (see: Robert Woods, Austin Blythe) and that Kromer, in particular, seems to know what he is doing. If they are confident in what they have, I will keep my fingers optimistically crossed.
