Crosby has a $30 million base salary plus $782,000 per game roster bonus.

I question if Young sees anything close to that kind of money and he offers much needed speed on defense.

Besides, the Raiders would probably ask for Verse since he has two years plus a potential rookie option bonus year left.
Spotrac projects that BY will get a $36 mil per year contract. The man did just get 12 sacks, is excellent defending the run, and edge defenders are the 2nd highest paid position behind QBs.

Young's projected to get a contract in the 20 million plus as of now. I don't think we would have to give up Verse if we attached a pick. Young is a fantastic edge rusher. He's no Crosby, but he's not a bad consolation if they need a little more time to rebuild.
I guess it all depends upon the pick or picks you are including in the trade. But, I try to think of these deals from the other team's perspective. If I'm running the Raiders I'd want the younger Verse to move my franchise End that I probably don't even want to trade in the first place.

If accurate $36 million is still a ways away from $43 million, IMO.

But, more importantly, if he's a good as stated why would the Rams even trade him?

Because they currently don’t have anyone that can cover a bed or get to a spot before the WR.
One could argue that for a team that plays a lot of zone defense the strategy could still work. But, they've just got to select and/or bring in players that are physical and can tackle. Especially, if the plan is to play guys 5-7 or so yards off the ball.

Forbes, Durant, Williams, Kendrick. C'mon. Stop bringing in these types of CBs and bring in some more physical players.

In this scenario, it's because they'd want to go from good to very good. I'm not sure if they see Crosby as a true game breaker but Snead has talked before about the synergistic effect those types of players can have. It literally took five players to replace the AD effect.

I just question if Crosby is that player.

I don't know. I mean Crosby is the better pass rusher, but Young is the one Edge player that can rush AND drop into coverage and keep up with some of the opposing teams offensive weapons.

True. But the game changing skillet is pass rushing. I guess it depends on how much better Crosby is at that.

Edit: Also FWIW, PFF ranks them similarly in coverage.

I didn't know Crosby was ever used in coverage. I wonder if he cracked more than a handful of plays in an entire season.

Crosby? Yes that pays him roughly 30 million a year through 2029 hence the vet already making a lot of money that we're "trying to avoid" with Young.
Not avoid. I'd just rather pay it to the better player different l especially if we want to maximize this current window.

While Crosby has been better he's also been hit with injuries the last 2 years so not sure he's the answer. Depends on the price naturally but that's a lot of money to pay for an almost 29 year old Edge who seems to have picked up an injury issue the last couple of years.

That's true. It's definitely a gamble. And I could definitely see the last couple of years as the beginning of the decline for Crosby. I do think it would take our pass rush to the next level, if healthy.

I don't think we will make a trade. I think Crosby for Young and a pick could be on the table, but ultimately I think we keep building.

Our three big needs/upgrade possibilities are CB, S, ILB, WR - so a trade for one of those could happen, but I doubt it

I feel strongly that we will enter next season with at least 1 new cb that is overwhelmingly considered the best cb on our roster, whether it is an FA or a draft pick I can't say. Our F.O has a way of surprising us so confident that it will be one over the other FA or draft pick I am not. I do think we will draft a CB, where is anyones guess but I think they are done with the room as it stands, and ready to upgrade even if it means going off script.
It would not be their style to go into the draft with the amount of corner need they're gonna have after FA if they don't add that position. So yeah at least one good starting corner has to be on tap. And maybe a depth type too. Then it's not armageddon if they don't add the position in the first two or three picks.

Not a big fan of Crosby. Would rather not pay Young either. Prefer a drafted edge.
