he has developed some kind of cult following...

some average joe cornerback is now the champion of unfair treatment.
Most of the comme ts supporting him are simply defending a late round pick. A lot of the criticism seems like people expect pro bowl play from a day three pick. Getting great play from those picks is rare.

The Rams are great at finding contributors from high rounds.

Can he learn? Can he clean up the senseless penalties? He's got a rep now, unfortunately... I think that's why he got the questionable call against him early Sunday.
But the taunting one was just him being dumb.
He played a very good game, is in his second year, and was a 6th round pick. If he can clean up the penalties, he's an absolute bargain as a low-end starter or depth guy.

And DK is a starting CB which by default makes him a contributor, just not a pro bowl player. What is this the 3rd or 4th thread on here about him? The amount of pissing and moaning about a 6th round pick is truly amazing. Hell the Rams offense is in the bottom third of the league with the genius McVay running it and Stafford at QB and we're 22nd in offense. How many threads are there about the putrid offense we have? Hint it's a lot less than our 6th round pick starting CB.

Fan Bases can be bi-polar, Kendrick is a perfect example
The amount of shade thrown at him over the course of the season has been at historic levels, comparable to Bobby Evans
Now he has a great play and overall decent game and all is forgiven?
Hmmm.... I think not....
I still think Kendrick can and will be upgraded upon

What's ironic is many fans will bitch and complain about our severe lack of pass rush and pressure then turn around and complain about our secondary, as if the two aren't connected.
Both need improvement

The game this past Sunday seemed like the best game he has played as a Ram, let's wait and see how he does this week against the Cards and then come back for more discussion.

Last year there was a lot of criticism too. Which I thought was unwarranted. He was a 6th round pick and some guys think he should be playing at a high level.

This year I think some of it is warranted. He's getting every opportunity to prove he's a legit starter. The endzone PI's in those two games were killers. Both resulted in final play touchdowns in close games that we lost.

The gun thing I won't pass judgement without knowing more details. I do think he's got potential to be good enough. But only if he cleans up the mistakes. They can offset any good he does on the field. The taunting thing just shows immaturity.

the thread was started about how good he was, and that people should basically shut up if they don't agree.

Also, there are 5x as many posts at least about McVay and Stafford than Kendricks....

I thought for a moment this thread was about D.K. Metcalf, and I'm like, "What did that overgrown toddler say and/or do this time?"

Good on Derion to get his first NFL pick, but damn, do not taunt the fucking opposing sideline, just go to the fucking endzone like everyone else.

Kendrick really turned it on against a backup QB. Let’s not crown him just yet. His strength is in zone coverage and he gets burned in man. He is not a great tackler either.

I’m sure that everybody here would forgive it all if he becomes an all-pro corner and stops with the penalties, but until that happens, maybe cool the attacks.

He's shown to be a good tackler on multiple occasions...what have you seen that makes you think otherwise?

Also, me saying he's shown potential to be a #2 CB on several occasions and you replying "yes and no" is basically the same thing. I'm saying he's shown the potential, which by definition means he hasn't met that potential yet.

Anything is possible, but there is little chance we re-sign Witherspoon IMO. I'd rather we not unless it's bargain cheap, so to me we will end up needing to upgrade that position which leaves it open for Kendrick/Durant/Tomlinson for the other CB spots.

And the results speak for themselves here:

7th worst in pressure % - which means it's A LOT harder on our pass coverage, right?

12th best in passer rating allowed

7th best in completion percentage allowed

6th in passing TDs allowed - and before anyone gets snarky, let's add the two PIs that Kendrick got called for against SF and PHI in the end zone that turned into rushing TDs - that takes us to 8th in passing TDs allowed

That is flat out incredible given how poor our pass rush has been. Now factor in how bad the offense has been as well - which allows teams to run the ball more and gives opposing offenses more opportunities in general.

If we fix the offense, which HAS to be the priority, followed by the pass rush - our CBs are fine. Hell, better than fine really based on the data.

So can we upgrade him? Sure. Should we? Not before LT, C, adding a WR and RB, adding a QB and an EDGE.

Yeah tried pointing out earlier this season how well they were playing, in the face of poor pressure. I think we need to replace Spoon going forward, he was always a rental, but we have some good young pieces in that secondary.

Also and btw I think Aubry Pleasant is going to get a lot of attention this offseason. And rightly so. Hopefully that includes Morris as well, though sometimes familiar names aren't as exciting as that new car smell. Pleasant will be a DC for sure in 2024 IMO.

He has decent skills, if he gets his shit together mentally, he could be a good player. Starting as a late round pick is a good start already.

The guy can play in this league and with good coaching he will be a starter for a long time with us or someone else. I personally don't care what he does off the field as long as it doesn't affect his availability.
