Out of respect for Gruden, I can’t possibly imagine McVay signing a guy who spoke down on a mentor of his. Not gonna happen!

Assuming we win against SF, he'd have three weeks of practice to get up to speed. Wade runs a scheme built to be simple to allow his guys to play fast. I think a vet like Swearinger could get up to speed in three weeks. It also helps that he played for Wade in Houston. Wade was the DC in Houston when they drafted D.J. in the 2nd round.

You could say the same thing about every play in NFL history. If the players executed better, the call would have worked. Swearinger is on the money. Gabbert is a bad QB. If you play man, you put more pressure on your secondary (a secondary built almost entirely around players who are better in zone coverage). Put the pressure on Gabbert to make the right read and an on-time throw. It's justifiable to not run zone against Brady or Brees on a key third down, but with a guy like Gabbert, you challenge him. He's well known for throwing late, staring down targets, and being a "see it, throw it" QB.
Agh this. I like this!

Didn’t realize that was his DC there in Texas. Hmmm I’m starting to hear wedding bells. Plenty of time to get him on board and going in the right direction. The question is who th’s hell we cut? Lol

Ps we are winning vs the ninnies. McVay is pissed off from last years schelackingbof his the 17th week. I know you know this because I’ve read it in your posts but he takes these things personal and I guarantee he’ll have our boys more than ready and put into position to return the favor to them this year!

I doubt he lasts long enough on the waiver wire, unfortunately.

Swearinger trashed the defensive staff, not Jay Gruden.

True, however it isn’t the first time he’s called out his team or coaches, which falls under the umbrella of the team’s leader, Gruden.

I think someone posted earlier that past the trading deadline a vet is an immediate FA and not subject to the waiver wire.

He trashed Gruden by ignoring his requests to keep his complaints in house....multiple times.

That's disobeying, not trashing.

Nah. It's the opposite. Before the trade deadline, they avoid waivers. After it, they must go through waivers.

Shit. Well maybe since it’s the last game no one may want him!?

What is his contract, if we put in a waiver claim? He said that he only wants to play for a winner - so it will be a brave team who picks him up, if they cannot provide the right environment - he would solve a lot of our current issues by taking the strong spot for sure - could push us over the top - would force wade to simplify the safety assignments - which looks like a good thing, I don’t know the stats, but we must be one of the worse teams for jail break scores or completions over 30 yards

I remember you wanted DJ out of college - he has matured (as a player) and we would be getting his best years

Is there another contender in need of safety help?

Here's his contract:
https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/washington-redskins/d.j.-swearinger-12338/

Deduct the signing bonus. We'd be on the hook for 1/17th of the base salary for 2018. We could decide whether to keep him for 2019, but we wouldn't be on the hook for any guaranteed money in 2019.

That looks like an unbelievable deal for a playoff contender - I will disappointed if we don’t sign him! BTW how did Collins go to another pro-bowl ahead of DJ and our top safety? Joke...

Yeah, but it's McSnead making these decisions isn't it? And McVay seems to be pretty pragmatic about things. It's not like Jay Gruden's going to be miffed about it or something.

@jrry32 likes him, I'm on board. Doubt he lasts threw waivers, but Swearinger has talent and plays Safety, where the Rams could use his talent. Right now, just want guys who can play and I trust the staff to keep him in check.

Can players decline a waver pick up? Iow, could he decline being picked until he received an offer from his preferred team?

He said something to the effect of “I watch more film than the coaches here do.”

No. But he can let certain teams know that he won't play for them.

I am a flat out NO on DJ - saw enough of the guy's act in Houston
didn't even know he was in the league. Watch him clear wavers
