He is a head case but he was playing pretty damn well this year.

Can this D handle yet another strong personality who has worn out his welcome elsewhere for the playoff run?

He should have just beat the crap out of someone, and then he wouldn’t have lost his job with the Redskins.

Why was he cut? If it's legal trouble, no. If it's because he sucks, also no. If it's because the Redskins are dumb, let's give it a shot.

He said something to the effect of “I watch more film than the coaches here do.”

From what I gather, he's just a guy who speaks his mind. He previously complained about practices being too lax. A guy who wants to practice harder? Not sure I see problem with that. But as they say, there's two sides to every story. The truth might be somewhere in the middle. I'm sure McVay has a good rapport with his old boss. He oughta give him a call and see what's really up with the guy. Not sure how long it would take him to get up to speed in Wade's defense. But he could provide some quality depth and he's had a good season.

The only issue I see is Swearinger complained about playing man and said he and his teammates are much better looking at the QB. Wade usually likes his guys to play man.

Well pretty much every dB is better in zone than man. His point was a backup qb would have a tougher time against zone than man and he’s not wrong

Go get him. We need a safety like him. His issues this year were definitely not related to play. He called out his DC.

Am I correct that he has been in the league long enough that he is no longer subject to waivers? He is a free agent or no?

I think in-season you have to go through waivers regardless. At the end of camp or offseason a vet does not.. could be wrong on that.

I was half right....

https://operations.nfl.com/updates/the-players/nfl-waiver-system-overview/

"Once the waiver period starts each year through the trading deadline, a vested veteran — a player who has acquired four years of pension credit — is not subject to the waiver system if the club decides to release him. That means if a team decides to release a vested veteran, the league considers his contract to be terminated immediately and he is free to negotiate and sign with any other club. From the trading deadline through the end of the regular season, vested veterans are subject to the waiver process."

He's a very good player so I doubt he clears waivers. But yeah I would add him.

Guys good but he’s been on what four teams in five years? And people aren’t giving up first rounders to get him either.

He's better than Christian by a mile. Might be better than Joyner too. If his salary is manageable, I'd put a claim in.

He is very good near the LOS. He'd give the Rams an ability to replace Barron for example, which would free up Christian to play more safety in pairing with Johnson.

The box guys are way easier to find than the guys who can play deep with instincts. But we could use him that's for damn sure.

All that aside the dude is about as dumb as a box of rocks, going off the things he's said. But goddamn he can see ball get ball.

Swearinger is a very smart football player. He's a good fit in Wade's scheme too because he can play all over the back end. But he is more comfortable in the box. He'd replace Christian. I doubt Christian would play over Joyner. Joyner is a much better player. For all the issues Joyner has had this year, he's looked quite good while playing Christian's role.

He'd be owed $176,471 for the final game, so he's affordable. It sounds like he was cut because he's a pain, and the Redskins aren't going anywhere and weren't going to keep him next year - because he's a pain. IF the Rams think he might help, why not. It's not a big deal though, since he'll need to be brought up to speed anyway, which may or may not be possible.

Joyner has been marginal if he's not dropping deep, he has the heart of a lion but he hasn't exactly been a sure tackler and doesn't anticipate well even in the box IMO. I want to see him sitting on the pine tbh, think that is a move that should have happened by now but it's hard for the staff to hold him accountable when they also have a starting ILB and CB failing miserably in their jobs too.

Thing that concerns me with Swearinger is he's commented before about coaches being control freaks (like his comments with Obrien). He's a complainer who I'm not sure will play with discipline, which is an area our secondary has struggled in. So I'd have to be confident he'd play the call to bring him in, as we don't need another guy doing his own thing when we're already in a situation where we have to endure Peters' BS.

On the positive side a guy like him will go balls out to show the Skins were wrong to cut him, so expect he'll play very well for whoever adds him. Hope we find a way to bring him in.
