I'd rather sign Earl Thomas for our FS and then focus on NT/ILB/CB in the first 4 rounds... presuming BPA of course...

I expect Brockers to be moved back inside to NT, with JFM or a draftee starting at end.

According to over the cap, without cutting anyone the Rams should have a tad over $37 million in cap space, with 38 players signed for 2019. If Barron is cut, that would be just under $44 million with 37 players signed, although there would still need to be space needed for the practice squad, for a buffer to sign players during the season to replace injured players, for the salaries of players on IR, and for dead cap from bonuses for draftees and UDFAs that don't make the team - oh, and for the 15 or 16 players not under contract for next season. Earl Thomas either would take a lot of that, or would have to come cheaper than I expect. But yes, he would be a good player. But remember there is Saffold and Littleton to sign still, at the very least. Possibly Fowler, too. Those three will likely cost somewhere around $20 million, maybe more.

Unless a great talent falls to the Rams at DT, I expect only some depth drafted on the DL. They need to keep the pipeline on the OL going, though unlikely to be in the first unless somebody special falls. TE late, probably. Several picks in the secondary. I'm guessing unless a special talent falls, it will either be an ILB or an edge rusher. And Snead has shown he can bounce around a bit to get the player they want, either moving up a bit or dropping back a bit to get better value.

I don’t think anther teams performance will effect the rams draft strategy. The biggest factor will be what happens in the offseason/free agency. It’s honestly too hard at this point to know what the roster will look like come draft time and where the biggest need is

I'd like to see us draft a FS with range. That would instantly make our CB's better.
Snead did draft one that fits your desires his name is John Johnson III ;).

JJ III sent Mo Alexander picking early last season when he was a rookie. This 6 ft 208 lb safety has playmaker all over him just insert him as high safety & watch what happens!:)

The below defense roster has Ram players who are under contract or stand higly probable to be under contract due to the ultra low cost @ retainment. No possible way to know how Free Agency goes... thus this is my guesstimate :

P.S. I believe these three not under contract currently will be resigned.

ER-Ebukam/ Okoronkwo
DT-Donald/ Smart
NT-Brockers/ Joseph-Day
DE-Franklin/ Fox{IR}
ER-Fowler/ Lawler/ Young{PS}

MLB-Kiser/ Hager
WsLB-Littleton/ T.Howard{PS}
SS-Christian/ Parker{PS}
NK-NRC/ Hatfield
CB-Talib/ Peterson{IR}
CB-Peters/ Richards{PS}
FS-JJ III/ Countess

Draft BPA at a position where there's some need (whether that's in the future or now). There are some guys I have my eye on for when I start evaluating. There is one DT I am very excited to evaluate.

Any chance we come back from this bye with some experimental packages in place that maybe include Kiser or Hager...?

Just think, this team at the end of 2018 could look a lot different than at the beginning.

Incorporating Reynolds, more Everett, and perhaps...a spot appearance by John Kelly? on offense.

On defense, Fowler on the edge, a more effective Ekubon, and perhaps Kiser or Hager in the middle.

Then, come out of the bye throwing Mannion at the league, and by the time they adjust....BOOM!!...Lombardi.

I'm not sure he's fast enough to be an elite free safety.

At 4.6 in the forty I just don't think J.J. Is fast enough.

I have seen enough of him to know he can be a playmaker as a high safety. I sure would want to see JJ III get a chance @ that position before we go off & put already heavy in demand Ram resources sunk in another FS when we may have a playmaker already present.I do expect Snead to draft a High/ Free/ Deep Safety with our 3rd or one of our two 4th rd selection in this upcoming draft.

FS Blake Countess has some good speed runs a 40-yard dash: 4.48 seconds. Even SS Marqui Christian is faster with a 40-yard dash: 4.46 seconds in his pro day. However they both lack deep coverage skills. Both of these safeties will return in 2019.

LJ who is a little faster lacks the ability in the back of that secondary. Now if you put LJ up close to the LOS & in the Nickle LJ can make the plays but he has failed thus far as a high safety.

I can not recall when the Rams last drafted an ELITE Free Safety.
you would have to go back to the 1980's Nolan Cromwell & Johnnie Johnson.

Wasn't Danny Trevathan a fifth or sixth round pick? Sure a Vander Esch would be great. I was hoping the Rams would move up to pick him before the Cooks trade happened. But, after 22, getting a linebacker like Vander Esch isn't easy. Best route is to look for a guy like Trevathan. Safety and corner will be tougher holes to fill.

I'm going to guess that Kiser either can't cover, or isn't fast enough. He sure can tackle.

There is a long ways to go before the draft.

If you say so. I haven't seen it other than that pick against a TE.

IMO he's a SS, a good one tho.

You and me both. He might be the run stopper we need.

Man, those games against Seattle would really be something if we snagged Earl ...
I think Thomas would love playing for the Rams knowing that twice a year he could lay the boom on his former team. Can you imagine the quotes and the hype there'd be when the Rams and the seachickens play each other?

Yes, it would supercharge the rivalry.

In todays NFL? Its pass rusher or cover DB's.

But yeah, the BPA method (within reason ) usually yields a quality draft.
