I think a great OLB is worth trading up for and Baun is a great prospect. Great rushing the passer, really good in coverage only gave up 112 yards in 2 years for 195 plays and good against the run.
At Univ. of Wisconsin he played mostly on the DL but also was an OLB.

He is better than Uche.

2019 - ran a 4.65 benched 24 reps. 13 sacks, 52 pressures, 16.5 pressure rate that was 6th in FBS.

I wasn't for trading up but Baun, Mater Gross, Epensa are still available all most of the time in the first round. I love Epensa but he feels more of a 4-3 DE.

There are no ILBs and I don't think any RBs are worth moving up for.

I think we offer #57 and #84 for it will be worth it.

Although I love Baun I absolutely do not think we trade up unless it’s within 8 picks above us.

There are still legit OLB and ILB plus other prospects out there. This draft has a ton of talent until about the mid 4th round that’s pretty damned solid.

Have a feeling maybe we trade Havenstein and get more trade ammo.

As much as I love him no thanks.
Because, he’s no Bobby Wagner? Snead got cute, and lost him, although he coveted him. My point, more than black or white. If you have that feeling, or if on your team, you think he’s a difference maker...do it. You have to.

if my call, I’d do it, but it’s not my call.

I think that was Fisher’s call.

Couple years later, a post-draft-day story came out about a similar decision where Fisher made the call NOT to trade-down for an extra pick, and risk losing a player he really coveted.

So Fisher took his guy that time. Maurice Alexander.

no way, it was definitely snead trading down wanting to get an extra pick. he said fisher would never let him forget about it.

He's definitely a difference maker and I wouldn't be mad at it at all. But I think we should be extra safe with the OL and draft guard/center at 52 plus an edge rusher at 57...or vise versa. There are some interesting guys in that range while not as good as Baun, some nice LBs. That third round pick will allow us to draft another OL or RB/ILB in the mix.

Thats why the Allen and Noteboom picks are so demoralizing. We should have the flexibility right now to trade up for Baun and not have to worry too much about the OL.

You hijacked my thread

There is some great talent available.

It’s going to be an exciting few hours as it would be a surprise if we stay at 52 and 57

Possibly but at that point in Rams history Fisher had total control and had to sign off on the move. Snead may have tried to convince him Wagner still would be there but it was Fishers call. As for Baun I like him a lot but I really don't like to compare draft picks to current Pro Bowlers it's just not a reliable thing to do. Baun very well could be the next Robert Thomas and not a Wagner. I pass on trading up because doing so could cost us the next Asante Samuel or Darren Sproles. I think in this draft we trade down before up but that's just me. If they get Baun I'll cheer for him but I don't want to trade up.

My recollection is different. As I recall, Fisher would say he regretted his decision.

Not suggesting Snead was against the trade-down but pretty sure it was Fisher making the final decisions.

That was the first Fisher/Snead draft. Fisher had been a huge hire who chose the Rams over Miami, while Snead came on board subsequently and was in a top front office role for the first time.

Well, Snead has owned this, many times over, so maybe he’s just a bitch. I don’t know.

They also liked Mychal Kendricks in the same draft, both linebackers were there and the Rams traded down and when it was their turn to pick, both were gone and we ended up with Isiah Pead.

Possibly but the way both of them talked about it, snead convinced Fisher they should move back and one of the lbers would still be there for them.

Unless Baun is the top rated guy on their board, no reason to trade up.
Some serious talent still waiting for them

I'd pass. The kid had to chug a bunch of water just to get up to 238 lbs for the combine. He'd be a speed bump on the edge vs. the run.

I tend to agree with this.
I mean - what would we have to give up? - our #52 and a 4th rounder? I'd do it.
