It just seems like the Fight to Move to LA has to be a part of why we are losing our own guys, when they could have been signed a year ago..locked down with team friendly contracts...
Bummer. Some of his penalties on ST hurt my head to think about, but he was an overall net positive for the team.
Ouch. That hurts special teams, defensive depth, and our sports center top 10 chances. Suddenly losing all these key guys is daunting.
Great special teams player, let's hope Zack Hodges who they added to the squad can offer up as much as Bates. Raiders seem to love Ram castoffs as they claimed the renowned Ray Ray Armstrong last season.

Seemed to have regressed last year, made more penalties than ever, at least that's my recollection from last year.

Hoping they get Chase Reynolds back in the fold. Two big hits to ST if they're both gone.
You're correct although he still offered quite a bit from a ST standpoint....They signed a LB late last year in Zack Hodges from Harvard so let's hope Hodges replaces Bates as the Rams seem dialed in pretty good on these type of players.

I don't think thats the case when it comes to Bates. He was a restricted FA we could have easily had him back for a cheap tender if we wanted to.
Bates was great, but our special teams coaching and scouting is outstanding. Lynch and Hager came in and were instant huge contributors. Bates rarely played on defense and the list of UDFA the rams turn into big time special team contributors is long. Reynolds, Bates, Lynch, Hecker, Marquez, and Harkey just to name a few. Take your word on Hodges, den. Not familiar with him at all.
But I do have the feeling that the coaches like Hager and Lynch a helluva lot more at LB than they did Bates.
Bates was a ST demon, but not all that at LB. Same with Chase Reynolds at RB.
The new draft picks, new UDFA's, and existing bench players are just gonna have to pick up the slack on ST. Not worried.
A PK is still our biggest ST issue right now.

Wasn't Bates the main MLB backup last season? I wonder who that goes to now.

Hager got reps at Mike and Will in the pre-season and led the teams in tackles in addition to a big special teams role. Might be the guy to take over in the bates role
