And according to Spotrac their combined market value is near $27M per.

True but one never knows..... sportrac doesn't factor in the Superbowl Champ effect as well as the AD effect and in this case the Jalen effect as well.

Folks here said Allen and Boom couldn't play.
I was in that boat for a while I wont deny it. And I'm there with Tutu and T Lewis right now. Hopefully I'm wrong with Tutu but Lewis man its just health, no one can question his talent when he's on the field. The problem is you cant develop and improve your game when you're not practicing/playing. So what is his ceiling even if he does play occasionally? IDK I think the two years we went to the SB recently we had a nice pass rush and I hope we invest in another OLB. I think we will but I'm curious what we do at CB too.

Damn yea that's what I was wondering. Have all the contract details come out on our moves so far this off-season? Does anyone know for sure how much space we currently have to play with? I wonder if the AD extension is being prioritized so we can create even more space.

Tyrann Matthieu is still available too I believe. He’s also an experienced player that could help lead the secondary.
Always liked the Honey Badger, he can play a bit undisciplined and nearing the back half of his career his athleticism may not be enough to compensate anymore.
I agree with the Clowney assessment he had good production and seems to usually favor $$ over winning

Not a big fan of Clowney personally.

I hope we go hard after Gilmore or a top CB. I don't see us going deep in the playoffs without a solid #2 CB. We were #20 vs the pass last year with a top pass rush. That isn't sustainable without some DB help.

Edge rusher can be found with an older FA or even added later in the year as we did with Miller.

I can go for a motivated Clowney. Incentives could help plus the desire to win a championship and AD. The Rams with Holland, TLew, and Garrett can give him some rest during the season. When he wants to turn it on he can turn it on at both stopping the run and pressuring the QB..

I also like Gilmore. I'm not sure how well he is aging. Sometimes CBs can lose it quickly. If Rams feel he still has I'm in.

I trust the Rams for one solid move for the defense and one smaller move with Edge and CB.

I feel like last years IOL is this years EDGE on this board.

Maybe we have guys ready to step in. Having said that, i do think it gets addressed in terms of adding some vet experience.

I also believe that the Rams are positioning themselves to be able to be active at the mid season trade deadline. IMO this is being overlooked.

I think I want Gilmore more than Wagner. We need a corner that can get it done, opposite Ramsey.

Is Gilmore the answer? Seemed when Patriots traded him it shocked the NFL world and then a bad injury hit him with Panthers and its been crickets since. He's a baller I just don't know about currently. How did we find DWILL< even he had a soft market in FA after we franchised him, RR and Deayton? I say draft for cornerback.

Beggars cant be choosers. Even if Gilmore has lost a step, he would still be a solid player in my opinion with his experience, technique and instincts. I've been through several Rams seasons where we played unproven CB's and don't want to feel that pain again.

...I know what you intended BTW. I think we're solid with what we have add in the draft. David Long showed up and I really dig Deayton and Rochell. Just my far away observations. There's more you experts know about on depth.

@TexasRam the 'pain' of repeating as Super Bowl Champs? No blue font.
DWill was one of the highest rated and proven #2 CB’s going into last year. Though he did struggle most of the season.

Long was picked on all season and a massive liability. Though to his credit he stepped up in the post season.

I honestly like the potential of some of our young guys but definitely wouldn’t risk going into the season expecting them to help our #20 ranked pass defense that already lost Miller and Weddle.

It’s a big risk in my book for a team in win now mode.

I want clowney on the edge. Still a physical run defender and can generate pass rush one on one.

At corner, just give me a vet that can hold up. Haden, Peterson, Jenkins, who ever.

He's played well when he was healthy. He played 64% of the snaps. The overall QBR against Gilmore was just under 60. Reports are that he looked like his old self. But corners over 30 can crash quickly, like you said, and injuries start to creep in so guys like Gilmore and Haden start playing year to year on one year deals.

One thing to consider is how much Snead relies on the comp pick formula. He's likely to favor a released free agent over an unreleased free agent. Wagner has been released. I'm not sure about Gilbert and I don't think Clowney was released.

Three released players that won't count against comp picks are Zed Smith, Bobby Wagner, and jackrabbit Jenkins.

I'm not against Clowney but I want to see the Rams get someone who wants a ring and not necessarily someone who wants a paycheck.

Snead has already trashed canned one 2023 compensatory awards draft selection. I should state that he did the trashing for a all pro WR.

Gilmore is no longer an all-pro caliber outside corner but much more of trending downward towards early retirement. There are bonafide reasons/elements why Gilmore remains unsigned. My thought is he would be a big costly gamble to the Rams team in 2022 one the Rams should easily avoid! Gilmore has not been healthy since 2019. Over the last two seasons, Gilmore has started only 14 of 33 gms in which he was paid over $21 million.

I prefer that Snead keeps his current three 2023 prospective comp picks that he will receive two 5th rd'ers & a 6th rd for UFA's departed Darious Williams, Austin Corbett & SJ-D. Snead would be better to sit & wait ready to ambush any future released veteran corners that are sure to show up.

I would also delete any consideration of signing DE Clowney for his demands of $13 million a season & bring in DE Morgan Fox instead & draft several edge rushers to blend in with signed Floyd/ Hollins/ Lewis/ Garrett.

Meanwhile, I would suggest resigning our own outside reserve CB Donte Deayon as a possible 6th Ram corner on the Ram roster @ a Econo salary cap cost. I would keep an account of released corners Trae Waynes, A.J. Bouye & even Janoris Jenkins to see if one would sign a low ball, say approx. $3 million contract to be a possibility as DC Morris's veteran 5th relief corner to go with the 3 corners we have now Ramsey/ Rochell/Long. Snead seriously needs to draft 2 CB's with the eight 2022 picks. I would have no issues if the top 2022 selection is an outside corner.

Corner is high on my list too. I don’t think Gilmore would be all that expensive. I remember Jenkins as being a bit undisciplined. If that is still the case I don’t think he’d mesh well with McVay. I do think they could use another veteran presence in the defensive backfield. Gilmore is smart. If they could keep him healthy he’d be a plus imo.

I agree that Clowney is asking too much right now. I just don’t like the Rams in house options and don’t believe they will find the guy they need by having their first pick late in round three. I’d consider Hughes as a pass rusher. I’m also interested to see if Garrett has added any weight. Nobody they get will duplicate what Von did. It’s a definite weakness.

As for future comp picks. I know Snead loves them. But to me it’s more important at this point to get whomever they need to complete the roster for another Super Bowl run. I just don’t think he’d agree.
