I won't walk it back and will take the wrath from everyone here and hope we have a kicking game that we never have to worry about for a while.
No wrath brother, just a difference of opinion.

Matt Gay, K

It was mentioned during the broadcast at the start of the game that Matt Gay had issues during pregame warmup, but no specific injury was revealed.

Halfway through the fourth quarter with a 14 point lead, Gay had the opportunity a 47-yard kick to make it a three-score game. The kick was accurate but just fell short, which was unusual for the strong-legged Gay.

A sense of doubt could have set in. The reminder of his failures in Raymond James Stadium as a rookie could have come to the forefront of his mind. Instead, Gay was afforded the opportunity to kick a 30-yard game winning field goal to send his former team packing - and he took care of business.

Yes and what I said was if the price was right. I also said I was good with GZ walking when the money got big.

Gay is a restricted FA so let's see what that money looks like. Yes, I was a big GZ fan from day one and I have certainly let the missed Gay 47 yarder creep into the concerned part of my mine.
If the missed 47 yarder was due to injury then I would lean toward Gay. I know I was concerned with yardage in the last 2 games after the miss at Tampa.
Always felt 47 yard line was the mark for GZ and with our offense that's doable every drive.

I don't know what's up with the weird misses at the end of the season, but I don't think it was an injury.. his kickoffs were plenty deep enough.

Kickers can be up and down... I don't expect as good a season from Gay next year, but I don't expect him to be a problem. I certainly wouldn't overpay.

Here's a far less than conclusive article on the possible injury.

Yeah... I just think he missed.

Agreed and punter is probably a bigger concern financially. Before anyone jumps me lol, I am a huge Hecker fan but the money when wanting to run it back goes elsewhere before P and K IMO.

GZ wasnt the same after the 2017 season. iIRC he got injured during the Jags or Hawks beatdown and lost alot of his power and control.

There is no world today where we'd take GZ over Matt Gay. GZ had his day and was great but you're straight out of your mind if you think GZ is an upgrade right now.

Matt Gay was freaking money this year. Yeah, he did miss one against the Bucs (short, not wide right or left), but if we hadn't blown a 27-3 lead, that FG wouldn't even have been an issue. Matt didn't miss any kicks against the whiners or in the super bowl. The blown extra point was on Hekker in the super bowl. Thankfully it didn't cost us.

I imagine they'll hit him with an original round tender and call it a day. If a team wants to sign him, the Rams pick up a 5th rounder.
Unless they are working on a longer term deal that's more cap friendly.
2.5 mill on a 1 year deal isnt going to break the bank
