There are a bunch of (older) big name free agents still available, guys like Adrian Peterson, Frank Gore, Leveon Bell, and several others.

Obviously they've decided to see what the young guys can do before turning to an aging vet.

Worst case scenario, if December rolls around and we have a need at RB for the playoffs, there will still be a few options.

Yeah losing Cam sucks, but I'll trust the scouting department to pick the best of what's out there, if need be.

I do wish we had at least 1 bigger back for short yardage and goal line because our biggest back is 208 pounds. Henderson has proven to be a lot tougher runner than I thought he'd be but I would like to have a Carlos Hyde type back to move the pile in short yardage.

The Rams need to sign another RB and they better not wait until the last minute.

To consider someone an upgrade, the Rams probably need to wait for cuts. Chances are, to be NFL caliber RB… that player is already on a roster somewhere.

Jones I had high hopes for but if Funk is pushing snaps with the ones it means by basic logic that Jones is not cementing that shit right now which is what I sort of was expecting.

I wish there was more chatter around Jones. Instead it seems ”we are fine” kind of vibe.

Which usually means; not fine. :laugh1:

We need to see live action. One preseason game could change the outlook real quick.

all NFL running backs had 0 carries and NFL experience before they played their first NFL game

Barry Sanders had 0 NFL carries in 1988
Emmit Smith had 0 NFL carries in 1989

I could go on but my point is made

That's actually a good point, and it applies to a lot of positions. I really think as part of the agreement to go to 17 games, the NFLPA should have really pushed for bigger roster sizes and more guys dressed on gameday. Have no idea why they didn't.

And for two bye weeks

And the Rams are very low on the waiver wire list. It likely would have to be a trade. Snead probably would hate to trade a third or fourth round pick in an upcoming draft that is expected to be loaded in the mid rounds, especially if its a retread.

The Niners seem to have done a better job of finding interchangeable RBs for a committee approach. Only having two on the roster won't cut it.

I am hoping they spot someone a team cuts, with hope of signing to the PS... snatch that player.

But, you could be right… may need to toss a pick.

And I will put it up another 3 times.

I'm not happy with the depth of the backup RB's on the roster to win a Lombardi.

0 carries by the backups has me worried.

You can blow this off and be content. I'm concerned.
I'm with you on signing a veteran RB such as Peterson, Bell, Gore etc that would not only be much needed insurance but a good seasoned pro presence for that freshman RB room. I just don't see the draw back to a one year deal before it's too late.

I can only trust they must have a plan or have their eye on someone.

On the flip side Dickerson had 0 carries when he broke the Still Standing All Time Rookie Season Record btw! Yeah, but I'm also pretty sure none of these dudes are Dickerson Go Rams!

These were my first thoughts after seeing that list of 0 carries, which is very general.

As we've seen, when Hendo gets a nice hole he can take it the distance. When he doesn't get a hole he does what any avg back does, gets held to a short gain. That injury last year from behind didn't give me much hope of him being "the main guy." The Rams don't have that back because of injury concerns. So they have to make due with what they have if they aren't looking outside the roster. I think they'll end up grabbing a vet a week before the season starts and letting go the least productive young back from that list of 0 carries. Thinking Anderson.

I like Henderson a lot as I stated many times. He had ankle injuries his first two years. Therefore, I don't expect him to be able to carry a big load. He seems more like 10-15 touches a game guy. Hope he can stay healthy and stay at the top of that range.

I've mentioned Bell before as an all-around back as an option. One Ram play said he was working out at the same place Bell was. At least he should be in decent condition. Bell should have some fresh legs. I think he can fit the bill to being a 1-2 punch with Hendu. He could carry a bigger load if need be at 220 Lbs. If not hem the Rams need to find someone else that can help.

I’m just not worried about our RB situation at this time and here is my reasoning:

Rams are rightfully gonna test drive their current RB’s to make damned sure whether they even need to bring in an outsider. Currently Funk is impressing everybody and I’ve seen a few kind comments about Jones.

If they feel the need there’s always good RB’s that will become available after final cuts. Happens every year and RB is by far the easiest position to find a plug and play quality player. I would be stunned if the Rams don’t already have 3-4 such RB’s already on their radar.

Finally, this Ram coaching staff is as good as any I can recall within recent memory. Trust me, they are very aware of all facets in this RB situation and already have plans A through Z to address it.

If our OL is as good as we think it is then there will be no shortage of running game threats to contribute in this McVay O. So if one wants to worry about something one should shift attention away from RB to OL.

I agree with comment here but I would be shocked if the Rams do not add a veteran RB prior to the start of the season, or shortly thereafter.

Xavier Jones - NFL carries 0

Raymond Calais - NFL carries 0

Jake Funk - NFL carries 0

Otis Anderson - NFL carries 0
I think you need to repeat that for us simpletons.
And I will put it up another 3 times.
Oh please do. That will really make us see the validity of your point. I mean if you repeat it enough I'm sure McVay will realize the error of his ways and sign someone who has more than zero NFL snaps.

Or maybe he already knows like I'm sure all of US, exactly how many NFL snaps our RBs have.

The concern is potentially warranted. But repeating the same thing over and over is kinda silly.

RBs will all start with zero reps. And we will not know what kind of quality we have until when or if they get some snaps.

McVay may also have some RBs in his sights. He may also think our RBs are as good as those he could reasonably expect to sign. Not sure.

I believe another reason no Vet RB has signed with the Rams involves training camp itself.

I bet the rumor mill will start after the first press on game and pick up momentum before the second. The leaves a guy signing before the third preseason game. He’ll get a few reps in that game and two weeks to learn the offense before the season starts.

I just can't see how the Rams can trust the current RB room for 17 games plus playoffs. Hendo has major durable issues and the rest is too green. I think Kenny Young gets cut to free up some cheddar. They will make a trade for a vet. Again I'm hoping we can get James Robinson Jags. Trade them Hendo even I don't trust Hendo period

I think the prob with Bell is his personality. The guy would definitely help us it just seems like teams don't want to deal with his BS.

But I'm with you on him. I think the need is great enough to add him. And with this roster and offense maybe he'd just STFU and do his job who knows. I mean a guy like him could make a big difference for us in the playoffs assuming he's got his head on straight which yes is a big assumption lol.
