Did you get that all out in one breath Den?I do believe the defense will be much better in 2018, but hopefully, Gerald Everett can make an impact and I expect to see him more on the jet sweeps and as to bringing Austin back, the Rams wanted that speed and maybe this year the Rams can use Austin more as a WR and less as a RB.
So Kupp nor Woods went over the middle? Watkins was good at it and tough but a few first downs is anything but irreplaceable. The main asset of his position was not going over the middle. It was as a deep threat. And frankly, with his injury history, I'm not too sure he'd last if we sent him across the middle all too often. We need our TEs and slot receivers to do that and from what I see Woods is not only capable of it but is more in tune when Goff is under pressure.I'm not "freaking out " OS, just pointing out the Rams have a hole to fill. Going over the middle for 10 15 yds is a big part of the game and the Rams have no one who they can depend on to do that consistently.
You say Reynolds Thomas, Everrett and Higbee will get it done. I've NEVER seen Reynolds or Thomas run a route over the middle. Not in TC and not in a game. They have a lot of work to do if McVay plans on using them on routes over the middle. Everrett needs work on crisper route running and getting separation. Higbee- separation and hanging onto the ball. Hemmigway is an unknown until TC and pre season.
Just sayin, Rams have no WR or TE reliable running routes over the middle.
I wanted to keep Sammy. But not at that kind of salary. He is ultimately replaceable in this offense though and I don't think his absence will be that big of a hit. Most of our skill positions on offense are very young. It's a little early to say what they can't do with a real offensive mind and coaching.
