this is a combination of a lot of things... we are playing good defensive fronts with bad 0=lines.

Our defense is okay but not bailing us out like it did in 2020.

I'm not totally shocked by any of this sadly.

As I said at the end of the GDT

Average defense

Terrible offense

Inconsistent ST

make for bad Sunday watching. At least I have Arsenal this year.

The Rams' pro scouting has been impeccable to date.

At the draft, the Rams hit and miss like every other team.

But at the pro level, trading for and signing current NFL players, the Rams almost NEVER miss. Their success rate in terms of identifying pro level acquisitions that can excel in our system almost defies NFL reality, with almost *zero* busts. Take a look at the list below, just off hit top of my head. Almost all home runs. And of the players that produce as hoped, I would not label them as busts, just players that merely produced "okay".

  1. Woods.
  2. Whitworth.
  3. John Sullivan.
  4. Mark Barron.
  5. OBJ.
  6. Von Miller.
  7. Ramsey.
  8. CJ Anderson.
  9. Darious Williams.
  10. Floyd (though he has not looked so hot lately, he was a complete reclamation project at the time, and largely seen as a bust in Chicago).
  11. Stafford.
  12. Matt Gay.
  13. Talib.
  14. Fowler.
  15. Peters.
  16. Austin Corbett.
  17. Clay Matthews.
  18. Conor Barwin.
  19. Ashawn Robinson.
  20. Weddle*.
  21. Suh.
  22. Nickell Robey-Coleman.
  23. Sam Shields.

That is 20+ players.... all of them at least decent, most of them good to great.

I put a "*" beside Weddle's name, because he arguably was a bust the first time around, but his second stint in horns was a resounding success, so I consider it a wash and place him in the "okay" category.

It is for this reason I was convinced Robinson and Wagner would be decent contributors for us, if not huge assets. Robinson in particular I was expecting huge things from, with Kupp drawing lots of coverage and Robinson finally have a decent QB. So far, we have gotten very little from them, although it is early.

Our problems run too deep to be solely blaming any players individually, IMO.

But I also wonder, were Snead and McVay too busy with Super Bowl win festivities, or perhaps even coasting, this off-season? The no doubt endless hours they spend breaking down film, to identify if a player will fit here, excel here, if a player is washed or simply could benefit from a change of scenery.... did that occur in the 2022 off season?

Or did Snead and McVay get lazy post Super Bowl and just sign whoever was the biggest name?

We'll never know. But it is something I ponder.

The Rams' track record is so impeccable that two huge misses, all of a sudden, almost seems fishy, and it has shocked me to be honest...

McVay needs to think outside the box with all of the injuries. Being conservative is not going to get it done. Most of the run plays are doomed before the snap.

Morris too. D wasn't bad and hasn't been bad statistically, but we need to get some turnovers and make some plays on that side of the ball to change momentum.

This reminds me of the 2019 season. OL needs to settle and gel. It may take a trade for a guy who can stabilize a key spot. But at the end of the day, we traded for Stafford to elevate this team. He has to figure out a way to step up and deliver with the OL playing the way it is. 10 TOs in 5 games is unacceptable.

We need the bye. Heal up, get Jefferson and Allen back, maybe trade Robinson for Humphrey (fingers crossed).
For which Humphrey? Marlon?

First off if we trade Robinson we incur $3 million in dead cap. So everybody can just forget about trading Robinson because we can't do it.

Second Marlon Humphrey? The Ravens have no need to trade him and if they did they incur $9 million in dead cap. Ravens aren't trading him.

Well that was just not good. I stepped away from the keyboard long enough to not be irate. But man, we either need the line to play better, the RBs to play better, The QB to play better, or the WRs to play better. If they all play better, we'll be fine.......Right?

We're at the point where McVay finally realized he needed to get Goff out of the pocket in 2019. Hopefully he's figuring it out...and why oh why, for the love of all things holy, is there no short passing game in this offense? Does he even have a single quick slant in the playbook?

Agreed. No attacking the middle of the field with quick developing short to intermediate routes. Mind boggling. All we want to do is throw quick passes to Kupp or Higbee near the sidelines when it is a bang-bang pass play.

I posted the defense has to keep the offense in the game early. The offense and Teams put the Rams behind 9-0 right off the bat. The defense did get a stop to hold the Cowgirls to 3 after the blocked punt. So the rest of the game was 13-10. The defense could have gotten a few more plays and not let up the big play TD run. They did play better.

The offense has too many injuries to overcome on what was already an average line at best. I thought they might gel this year with a highly-rated rookie and young veterans with an added year of experience. No luck with the rookie and injuries to the offensive line. The poor offensive line leads to poor first-down yardage. That puts more pressure on Stafford and the passing game. It has made Stafford miss a few passes that he hits. As they just said on NBC it was a party in the Rams backfield for Dallas all game long.

Did any Jeff Fisher team have a stretch this bad on offense? I cannot seem to recall it but perhaps my memory has just suppressed it.

Very pathetic considering those Fisher teams always had back up QBs with Bradford always injured, Fisher was offensively inept and a defensive coach, and no game breaking WR was in the picture. We now have Kupp, Stafford, and McVay the alleged boy genius.

I understand the o-line is in shambles but some of those Fisher teams were just awful on the o-line as well.

Bad look offensively right now, from top to bottom. Coaching staff, player execution, everything.

Yes, the o-line handicaps that side of the ball. But we still need better. From Stafford in particular. Against SF, if he is better in the red zone, and does not miss wide open TDs, we might well squeak out the W.

Hopefully the Rams can turn this things around!

Lots of football left to be played.

(1) O-line is absolutely horrible. = (2) Stafford is getting killed and is shell shocked = (3)Turnovers and playing from behind.
Rams will dust themselves off and be as competitive as they can while being completely embarrassed in 3 of 5 games.

Sad part I don’t know if they can find that guy for the OL. They might just keep their current draft capital & draft them hoping the others can get healthy. They need to cut Evans though.

This is all about surviving next week, get to the bye, and get healthier. Even then you can see this will be struggle this year considering the schedule and the shortcomings of the roster.

It is what it is.... They went all in the last few yrs, gave up some key picks, making it tough to get impact players in the draft. Add in some FA misses and this is what you get.

They have no margin for error and when you miss on Robinson and Wagner and can't take advantage of Tutu's one asset, his speed, with this wreck of a line, you will struggle.

Having said all that, they did raise the Lombardi last year and you can't complain about that.
