I'm hoping for the best. He still has plenty of effort, but he looked washed last year. It's also worth noting that he played both ILB and OLB for Green Bay. I wonder where he'll play for us.

Honestly, I think he'll play both positions, depending on down/distance. He's still very versatile.

Rams signed OLB Clay Matthews, formerly of the Packers, to a two-year contract.
Edge pressure is a big need for a Rams team that is paying Dante Fowler $12 million this season. Fowler has never been a sack master, but Matthews' addition should help in a big way, even if Matthews is embarking on his 33rd birthday (in May) and coming off a 3.5-sack season. Matthews was near the bottom of Pro Football Focus' pass-rush productivity grades last season, generating just 30 total pressures on 356 snaps rushing the quarterback. Matthews and Samson Ebukam will team with Fowler off the edge for L.A.

I think they are wrong here - much more likely to see him at inside linebacker.

Seems like for the money it's a good deal. I'm assuming that he is much cheaper than Justin Houston. As a posted earlier he doesn't have to play every down. A fresher CM is a better player. Rams getting short term help from cheaper veteran.

Not sure about the reported $$$ but I see him as a solid ILB. He could also fill in off the EDGE. I wonder how the Rams were able to find the $$$ for him as they were pretty low on funds.

Where will CM play?

And does this keep Kiser off the field?

Or Obo?

Or is CM gonna be a swing $8M player?

Lots of questions at this point and not a lot of answers just yet. Sigh...

I think that Kiser and Ebukam/Okoronkwo will still play. Matthews can play both inside and outside linebacker, and either way, that'll open up a spot. Not to mention the possibilities for blitzing because if there's one thing that Matthews continues to do well at, it's pressuring the quarterback.

Thanks, Memento.

That’s the best answer I’ve read so far on two boards. Take a bow. Lol.

Jesus man reading this board you'd think we just overpaid for an ILB.

ROLB - Fowler, Fox, Okoronkwo
ILB - Littleton, Kiser
ILB - Ebukam, Matthews, Kiser
LOLB - Matthews, Okoronkwo, Ebukam

I'm just trying to tease a LB depth chart with 8 guys total, 5 of whom may provide multiple position rotations. Lawler & Young would be competing for that 8'th possible roster spot. Travin Howard would compete with Blake Countess for the back-up SS position. How are you guys seeing it ?

I see us having nine linebackers, including a late draft pick inside linebacker. I'd prefer Howard at strong safety (because I am not a fan of Countess and his tackling, although he's decent at coverage), but I doubt the Rams see it the same way, as they prefer their safeties to be interchangeable. Howard is purely a strong safety/linebacker hybrid; I see him competing with Christian (whom I do like).

I think Fox competes with Lawler and Young, as I'm not sure that his spot is a lock, especially given his injury last year.

There is a lot of talented EDGE and DT players in this draft. Not so much at ILB. Add an EDGE player in the Draft and this LB Corp is looking pretty damn good!

ILB still has talented players who will fall to the late rounds (Sione Takitaki, Khalil Hodge, Terez Hall, Terrill Hanks, etc.) That's not even mentioning the fact that we need depth in special teams inside linebacker, since we've lost Barron and - possibly - Hager and Wilson.

2 years $8.3 million per year? Overpaid. I will wait and see what the guarantees are.
