I know Jacksonville is a bad team.. that doesn't take away from a dominant win, to me.
The Rams not only won, but made some key adjustments and changes that could impact their fate the rest of the way. That's really big, imo.
I don't have the time to go through the game again.. but it sure seemed to me that they ran a little more "man" in this game with Darious Williams.
The changes to the run game are potentially huge on several levels.
McVay and the Rams org are, understandably, obsessed with "explosive plays" in both the run and pass game. It's my belief that being hyper-focused on those may have lead them away from a solidly constructed overall offensive game plan. It's not just that they weren't running, they weren't really running for impact.
The jumbo sets make me absolutely giddy.. and seeing Michel just keep making positive yardage was fantastic. It also takes some time off the clock and gives your D a chance to rest and.. maybe.. make some tweaks.
If... IF... the Rams stay with Michel in order to give the offensive run game a consistent identity and then mix in Henderson.. I think they'll be in better shape down the stretch.
If the offense gains that kind of balance.. hopefully it lets Stafford work into games and he doesn't make those early errors we've seen recently. No turnovers is exactly what they needed.
Biggest problem I see, moving forward, is the personnel in the defensive backfield and Ilbs. Let's hope Jones can grow up quickly.. because being able to tackle in the open field has obviously been a problem.
Williams had a couple of holds.. but both were borderline, imo.
If the Rams are going to make an impact in the playoffs... I think Rochell is going to have to make some big strides the last month and a half of the regular season.
