New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton reportedly tested positive for the coronavirus and will not play against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

Newton had tested positive and that Jarrett Stidham or Brian Hoyer will have to start against the defending Super Bowl champions, ESPN reported Saturday. The Patriots have reportedly conducted mass testing and there was no spread.

NFL ALTERS SCHEDULE AMID TITANS' CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAK

Newton was not listed on the team’s injury report on Friday and was not officially placed on the league’s reserve/COVID-19 list which is for players who have either tested positive for the virus or had been around someone who tested positive for the virus. Teams are prohibited from disclosing health statuses regarding the coronavirus.

Starting to turn into a shit show

Gonna wait and see how it all plays out before proclaiming one extreme (sky is falling) or another (nothing to worry).

I'm not that cynical to say the NFL is scrambling around, I'm sure they have protocol for this exact situation.

I stand by my statement that this shit is gonna happen and eventually it's gonna happen to our Rams. Then we'll see if the sky is falling. Lol

So much for the extra slots on the PS. One player and the game is cancelled? The NFL can't do this and the season still happen unless they don't mind pushing the Super Bowl back to April.

Looks like they have multiple positives on both sides now.

They're aiming for Monday or Tuesday rescheduling. The Bears game is getting plugged into that slot.

I could see the league shutting down all games for a few weeks IF THIS KEEPS UP. Then restarting a shortened season. Maybe come up with a different schedule focused around division and conference play and then the playoffs. Also make more stringent protocols for teams to mitigate exposer. Most venues don't have anything else scheduled so it won't be that hard to do.

So what was the point of the extra slots on the PS? I was under the impression it was expanded so that teams would have enough healthy bodies to practice during the week and also so they could field a full team on game day.

Guess they didn't plan on the spread and contact tracing, only people coming down with it.
