Agreed on being a guard at least at first. I'm not sure he's got the football acumen to be an all around center in the NFL without some seasoning. But boy will he maul people in the run game if given the chance. He's got what I call working man core strength. Having grown up on a farm I just know there's a different kind of core strength you get by doing real physical labor that I don't think you get lifting weights. The kid doesn't look like he's going to win any weight lifting contests with his arms but he's got that thick frame from chest to thighs that will keep him anchored against anyone trying to move him head on.

The question is if he'll be able to keep his hands in front of him as soon as a smart d-lineman starts grabbing, slapping, and leveraging with superior speed. So I still have questions about his ability at the NFL level starting out. An obviously nasty mauler in the run game but are the better d-lineman going to run right by him in pass defense? Luckily hand and foot skills can be refined.

I agree. He only started trying center to make himself more draftable. Like many have pointed out, he’s very raw and needs coached on technique. He likely needs coached on protections too. It would suck if the Rams used #57 on him as a risky prospect and it doesn’t pan out at center and they are stuck another season with Blythe as the main guy and a hole in the middle next offseason. The two meetings by Carberry could have been simply to gauge if he thinks he could learn to play center.

I like potential high ceiling guys that need a lot of work, but not in rounds 2,3 or 4. Meinerz is much to take and it could take him 3-4 years to develop into a center. Then he’s a free agent. They need help at the position now. Id hope they land a more established center who may be ready by 2022 or a little sooner.

He'd have to do well in interviews. God help us if we blow another premium / need pick on a knucklehead (cf: Grob)
