Burns, Taylor: How much would you pay?

If the Rams decide they don’t want to wait until next offseason and decide to try to make a big move for Brian Burns or Jonathan Taylor now, how much would you be willing to offer?

Assume, for the sake of the hypothetical that the Rams are would be able to sign whomever the acquire to a long-term deal.

Nothing. Wait for next offseason.

That's a disingenuous comparison IMO, We dont know how ready he'll be or how much additional time he may miss.
Comparing apples to apples, CMC played in 50 straight games to start his NFL career, while Taylor has missed 10 games in his first 53 games.
To say one is more durable than the other is just not a fair statement

Well to be factual then, he'll have played in 43 of 53 games, 54 if including his missing a game due to Covid

This is what I don't understand about people so gung ho about not trading. Any running back we take on is a risk to have their career derailed by one nasty injury.

Agree with this.

Snead has talked about being "disciplined" this year and "paying off the credit card debt" and "sticking with the plan." I think this means the Rams are committed to being financially disciplined with the hope of going "all in again" in 2024 and spending big for a serious SB run.

If the Rams somehow go undefeated between now and the trade deadline, perhaps that plan would change. But I think they're still viewing 2023 as the developmental year for a big run in 2024.

Nothing for either. They both want to break the bank in the offseason. Burns will get big money for mediocre numbers. Someone will pay him but I’d rather draft an edge in the draft and have him cost controlled for 5 years. Taylor is a shiny sports car with 100,000 miles already on the odometer and you can find good running backs in the 5th - 7 th round.

I think I'd prefer not getting into a big contract. Let the youngsters get their experience on the field and see how things shake out for next year. These kids could surprise and make the team a contender this season. Young needs the experience. We see his potential. Kyren Williams too. We could have two guys a lot cheaper than Taylor and Burns would be. Money that could be well spent elsewhere. Like the other edge side. Or inside linebacker.

I don't see a favorable trade possible for either off these players. I hope the Rams braintrust doesn't feel they have to make a move just because.

I am looking fwd to seeing what they can do with a full compliment of draft picks and a sh#$ ton of cap to work with....

I wouldn't TRADE a damn thing for either. Why waste multiple high picks under cost control when we WILL have free agency money to throw around next year. If the Rams continue to impress with this re-model we WILL be a free agent destination next year for some big time talent.

There thought process should be like, "if we just had a draft class full of immediate impactful studs with no 1st or 2nds what could we do with all our picks ?"
The Rams Way used to be about drafting better than everyone else. Bill Walsh said as much.
Get back to that. Then Sean can see the effects of all his handy-work, his investment .
And have a 30 year run with only one team. Like Shula, Knoll ect.

Exactly.

Go old school: build through the draft. If the right free agents are available- and not exorbitantly expensive- great; but trading mid-season is a complete waste of resources.

I've been against trading for Taylor. But after watching McCaffery and seeing what he does for that offense, a dynamic RB threat would change how defenses have to play the Rams. Cost? They would have to extend his contract and it would cost $10-$12M a year next year. But that isn't a bank breaker and he's 24 right now.

I like Williams but he doesn't scare anyone. He's a good RB but he's never going to be a great RB. If they package Akers and say a 3rd round pick for Taylor I'd be okay with that. Let Indy re-shop Akers if they want. But Taylor behind this OL and with Stafford and the dynamic trio at WR this would be a SB worthy offense.

Taylor would make this good offense one that really scares DCs. How much is that worth. If they draft that QB1 for 2025 Taylor is the type of RB that would help a young QB until he hits his stride. Christian McCaffery timed at 4.49, Taylor is faster at 4.39.

I don’t know why we didn’t secure our reported deal with CMC; I am sure it must have been due to financial constraints.

There isn’t a single running back available (or soon to be so) who is anywhere near his class.

Shame that we couldn’t get him.
