Thanks Man LOLI am open to second chances on guys who are in such tragically awful situations.
...man, how could Carolina pick this kid #1 overall?? wasn't even that great in AL in 2022. At 5'-10", he needs to be Russell Wilson or better, for a #1 overall pick -- which Russell was a 3rd round unicorn.
C.J. Stroud, 6'-3" from Ohio State... how can you pick Bryce Young over C.J.?? Did Bryce just have amazing highlights? even if he did, playing college QB & NFL is completely different.
...man, #1 overall pick. Can't be too critical tho, as good as Bradford was, he was a statue in the pocket. Couldn't lead a receiver. Both things I could clearly see (and I'm no football expert by any means) from his OU highlights, where he took all snaps from shotgun & just stood there while his #1 O-line made a wall of stone around him so he could take 8 - 10 s to throw a pass. Was never gonna work in the NFL.
Fast fwd to Goff, and you could see the accuracy & ability to pass, I'd have easily taken him over Wentz.
But, Bryce?? anyone know why?
You may be completely correct and I'm not arguing against your points; however, I think it boils down to something much more simple–anticipation and processing speed. Stafford has it; Goff doesn't.This is going to be a very unpopular opinion.
But I don't believe Mcvay is all that great of a coach in this situation.
I think he's a tremendous coach.
But I truly believe he struggles with developing a QB.
He built an offense around Goff's strengths. And they succeeded.
But the second things went wrong it was Goff's fault ( Jourdan's podcast makes this clear)
Mcvay couldn't figure out the solution. He battered Goff endlessly.
Then he met Stafford.
Stafford was able to tell him the solutions to the problems - with his offense. (In Cancun)
Goff is offloaded and Staff is brought in.
My unpopular opinion is that I don't get why anyone would think Mcvay is a developer of QBs.
He doesn't and hasn't had patience with developing QBs.
The idea that trading for Young might save his career is way off base.
I love Mcvay. Great coach. But I'm not buying into the idea that he's a good QB developer
This is next level insight and analysis; the exact reason I love this board.McVay has coached 4 starting QBs.
RGIII who with his Dad was on the way out. And he coached up a nobody in Cousins who is on record that McVay was instrumental in him being a starter.
Goff, who was routinely shit on when McVay came in. Who he coached to a Super Bowl prior to Goff's confidence eroding.
And Stafford, who was questioned in the media re: whether he was good enough to win a playoff game. He did in fact win that playoff game, and put together one of the most impressive postseason runs by a QB in history, with zero run game to back him up.
So. To criticize McVay the best approach is to start with the fact that his inability to consistently balance his offense puts inordinate pressure on passers. He gets the most from them, but I suspect wears them down mentally. Of course Stafford suffered so long under poor coaches that he probably still appreciates the offense and calls in spite of all that.
Hey den good to see you back. How are you feeling so far and how is the new hip doing?Too short, too small and we have enough injury prone guys.
