That site by the way is a great resource. While there who would we cut to be able to afford Irvin? The rest of the season his base pay is about $5 million so we need to cut somebody and then also replace them. Gotta factor in dead money.

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/los-angeles-rams/cap/

Just a quick question, I think I know the answer. Do you think people who don't want us to add an edge rusher don't also want the Rams to win? Any addition this point in the season isn't a guarantee to upgrade the defense regardless of their current production or past production either. How long is it going to take him to learn the defense and fit in with those around him? Maybe as long as it takes Obo? Just a though, just cause you add a new toy doesn't mean you're a better team defense.
So your saying there is no way to move money around to afford a veteran edge rusher is need be. Im not a cap specialist but i think Demoff is very capable of figuring it out. No one is stating others who dont want the Rams to add a pass rusher dont want the Rams to win but the whole point of this forum is to come up with discussions and discuss them right? Doesnt mean i think the other person is a Ram hater. Just different opinions. Also we have never seen Obo play in the nfl we dont know what we are gonna get but my guess is he was taken in the later rounds for a reason. That reason is he needs to develop more. I think he will be a decent player but not this year.

There are a few people here who play with the cap numbers understand how it works and can answer questions on it. All you gotta do is ask. As for the TV guys saying we cleared that much cap space I couldn't speak to what they were talking about I was outside an ICU visiting somebody that night so I didn't hear it. I don't know what they were referring to or when those moves happened. It could have been anything and it could have been stuff they did a couple weeks before I just don't know but looking at a quick google search, which is always your friend, the last restructures I can find were Whitworth and Woods prior to the season starting which likely was used to pay AD $8 million of his signing bonus which is allocated to this years salary cap.

And seriously asking if there would be complaints if we added Mack is an honest question? You think there would be complaints if we added a DPOY to our team? Come on man! But lets play a game. Mack's cap hit this year is $13.8 million we have $4.2 million so that means we have to clear up $10 million roughly in cap space, gotta keep some room for injury signings ala Santos. So who we cutting? One player cut well that won't work because no 1 player is going to free up that kind of cap space. So now we're cutting 2 guys to add Mack so looking at the cap figures we're likely going to have to cut 2 or 3 starters. Just playing the game we're talking about cutting two of Talib, Saffold and Whitworth. Or worse just not resigning AD yet or even worse signing him but pushing that $8 million in cap hit this years bonus allocation put on the cap back a year which is going to negatively affect the cap when we have to resign Goff.

As for who I'd want us to add I'm on record saying I don't think there's anybody we could afford that would make a difference or would be worth the draft picks to acquire them. Start with this list.

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/valuation/outside-linebacker/

Browse through that list. But take off players on teams that are competing for a playoff spot which is most of the list. Likely take off division opponents and likely other NFC teams they won't want to deal with us. Take off teams with a QB on their rookie deal, that's the win now while the big money players are cheap mentality. Now you're stuck with what maybe Shaquil Barrett? Connor Barwin who we didn't resign even after we saw how much Wade likes the guy. In short there isn't much out there that is realistic that we could add. Barrett would be an interesting addition, he's young and on a relatively cheap 1 year deal and he did have 5.5 sacks coming off the bench with limited starts for Wade in Denver in 2015. Reddick would be interesting, he's on his rookie deal and not a fit in Arizona but would they trade with their division leaders? Not likely IMO.

Yes I and others would like to add somebody to the edge but I'm not sure it's as important to Wade as it seems to be to some fans. They added guys in the off season through the draft and brought back the guys he wanted. They built the defense and had the chance to do what fans wanted. They chose their route. I've said it probably a million times by now but trust in Wade.

Appreciate the info and for the most part it seems we agree. The Mack thing was just to prove a point and I've been saying all along that most people on this board are in agreement about the edge rusher situation. What I dislike s people saying stuff like chill or soak it in or sit back and relax....I am enjoying these last two seasons of Rams football more than anything and take such pride in this team and how they play coach and run as an organization, but if we know football we know this season has the makings of something big but there is one huge weakness and maybe one or two minor things that can be fixed possibly from within. I'm just saying I just hoe they are trying and at least end up with depth. Look today Kupp no out for a long time from what we heard and we went out and signed someone who is familiar with the offense but may never see the light of day hu we did it. And you are correct about learning wades system but if you have 8 weeks to learn it and the Rams already have 6 wins maybe 7 after this week that's plenty of time to acclimate yourself but wades been all over there are so many players scattered over the league tha have played for him and yes Barrett would be great or I keep mention Ray so there are options which is all this thread was about.

I dont feel like i won anything but if you are gonna tell everyone to bug off because they have a different opinion then you maybe this forum isnt the right place for you. Thats what i thought this place was for. I was still waiting on the name because right now no olb has stepped up rookie or not. I think that guy you might be thinking of is Obo and i would agree i think he is gonna be decent but not right away

You must realize also and most importantly...Think about it. Edge rushers are pointless when you have refs that are blind not calling the most obvious holding calls. I figured I’d save the obvious for last. Our defense would be great if we got them damn calls. 75% of the snaps Donald, Suh are being strangled by the opposing OL. Our D looks bad probably because of that false screen the refs are giving it.

Seriously??? With all do respect that's lame and you know what the other side of the coin is which should be "obvious" the more good rushes the more hold the more they will be forced to call the penalty not to mention the edge has so many other ramifications it's not just about the sack it's about forcing the qb into bad decisions its about forcing fumbles etc.

He hasn't been a Seahag in a long time and I don't care where or who they played for if they can help us achieve our ultimate goal then I don't care if it was Ken Norton himself that punched the goal post in our Super Bowl win in 2019!!!! I just want to win. If Isaac Bruce can play for the whiners I'm ok with Irvin playing for us couple years removed from the hags.

Norton? I'd have to quit watching football until he moved on. There are certain units on teams I hate. Usually it's defense. With that comes the players on it. I see Irvin and think of the Seattle defense, Legion of Boom, loud mouth bunch of cocky assholes. Norton is one of the most reviled players of all time, in my book.

As a Yankee fan, I hated when Wade Boggs came to NY from, Boston, Giambi from Oakland, A-Rod from Seattle (via Texas). Sure, I still rooted for my team, but I was glad to see those guys move on. It's worse than when my sister in law decides to visit. I no longer feel comfortable in my own house.

@Robert @payote75 Just want to clarify I’m not challenging you or calling you out. Nothing like that I’m just curious how you make it work. It’s all well and good to want to add talent to the team but the main issue is making it work. Everybody would like to trade for Von Miller or Mack. How do we make it happen and how do we pay for it? There’s a finite amount of cap is all I and others are wondering. I’m not attacking you guys hope it doesn’t come across that way.

In Seattle he had to drop into coverage and play as an OLB that rushed the passer in many 3-4 sets.

That’s what we would need here. However he is bad at dropping into coverage and average at rushing the passer. Undersized too. There are better DE’s/OLB’s available.

Irvin's not a fit for edge in this defense at this point in his career. He's not good in space and dudes would blow by him in contain. Pass.

What he did before and what he can do now are two entirely different things.

Who said anything about trading for Von Miller or Khalil Mack?

Sorry there were two people in that. Earlier in the thread I was asked if I would be upset if we traded for Mack.

Why do I need to start a discussion on if we can afford someone. That wasn't the discussion at hand. In fact I clearly stated it didnt have to be Bruce Irvin it could be another other player that could help this team. I would take Shane Ray he is cheap, played for Wade.

https://www.denverbroncos.com/news/...ng-players-ruled-out-for-thursday-night-footb

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — When the Broncos take on the Cardinals on “Thursday Night Football,” they’ll be without cornerback Adam Jones (thigh), outside linebacker Shane Ray (ankle/wrist), safety Dymonte Thomas (chest) and tackle Jared Veldheer (knee).

All four players were ruled out after missing Wednesday’s practice.

Guard Ron Leary (Achilles) was also ruled out. Head Coach Vance Joseph said Monday that Leary would be placed on injured reserve.

Cornerback Tramaine Brock will likely fill in for Jones in the secondary, while rookie DaeSean Hamilton handles punt return duties. Billy Turner will continue to hold down Veldheer’s spot at right tackle, while Max Garcia is expected to take Leary’s place.

The Broncos face the Cardinals on Thursday night at 6:20 p.m. MDT on FOX.

Here is a article about Ray's injuries. Broncos didn't pick up his 5th year option.

The information above shows Ray is a injury liability at this point. Free agent next year and not playing does sound like he will be the answer.

I agree with many others I just don't see the fascination with him. He's brought up all the time and has had some success but he's hurt so much it would be hard to pay him or rely on him. Would he be healthy down the stretch or in the playoffs? I just can't see it.

I have wanting an edge rusher since the draft. Too bad Junior Galette didn't work out when they had him in.

It's hard to find one at any time especially now going into week seven. I'm open to suggestions. It has to make sense in compensation, for length of contract and financially.

I hear ya but to me with the Rams and what they and we or I should say I have been through my motto is "just win baby" but totally hear where your coming from.
