Brian Allen Signs 3yr Extension

Rams re-signed C Brian Allen to a three-year, $24 million deal.

Just 26 years old, Allen started 16 games for the Rams in 2021 and played on 88% of snaps. He hasn't been called for a penalty since 2019, per Pro Football Reference, and was Pro Football Focus' 13th graded center in 2021. Allen is a strong signing as the Rams attempt to repeat their Super Bowl run.

With this surprising news, I would look for RFA Coleman Shelton to be a primary prospect to fill the vacancy @ Right OG post where Austin Corbett played for 2 seasons.

CS proved to be excellent @ pulling & hitting his target on the move in run blocking. Having him team with Havenstein is sure to help that right side on running attack.

I'm still holding out for more of a big bull-rushing type at RG, either way, there should be some good competition at RG between a new draftee, Anchrum, Brewer, & possibly Shelton. The infamous Evans is still in the game too, although I have him more in Demby territory now.

Exactly, ... his base salary, bonus & CAP hit could easily be a good deal less than what some are thinking.

I’d still rather have Creed Humphrey already under contract and never have heard The Rams and Tutu in the same sentence.

Supposedly Stafford really liked working with Allen. That may have played a role.

No matter what, I'm going to be incredibly annoyed with Tutu. I feel bad, but I hated it at the time and still do.

Looks like Coach Mac and Mr. Snead value B. Allen much higher than many on this board do and, moreover, view Shelton as a backup primarily.

Or Shelton is the plan at RG perhaps and we let Corbett walk. Because God knows Evans at RG is not the answer.

Did you guys see where the Rams signed Coleman Shelton to a two-year deal.

Reported on their Team-site. No numbers yet.

Shelton was a Restricted Free Agent, so the Rams could have just tendered him like they were reported to be doing with Travin Howard and Matt Gay. Shelton could have simply been tendered (for about $2.4M) but the Rams decided to hold onto him for an extra year.

Really happy for Allen, he put in a lot of hard work and was instrumental in the Rams SB win.

The numbers look good for both Allen and the team.

If Stafford likes working with him that had to have been weighed in the decision.

He’s young, been improving and not a penalty machine.

That's a pretty fair deal. Continuity is important and he knows the system.

We could have had an all pro at an extremely reasonable rate for the next 3 years

But then again we could have kept a below average center last year so.....

Allen was signed to a market value contract. He's a good young player who is still developing. He and Noteboom are the lynchpin signings on the OL.

Now I want to see a Miller Stays and OBJ Stays posts

With maybe a possible signing of Wagner post

And whoever they get in the draft can be depth for next season

I think we are good with Rochelle and Long at CB with a draftee as a reserve

CBs seem to improve a lot in their second year and I see Rochelle as a stud next year.

Allen is still young. He was set back by the injuries and such. Then had a surprisingly really good 2021 and staying healthy. Another off season of weight training, building mass/strength, etc. - potentially he could be even better next season and beyond. At worst he is what he is - starting OC Super Bowl champ

Rams FO and coaches believe in Allen. It was clear he was a focus of theirs to sign long term for OC. Fine by me
