Like the tweet says there aren't enough in the lower level of coaching yet.
Many of the best black coaches are on the defensive side of the ball as well. I think black kids considering coaching should start choosing offense.

I am 100% behind the idea of the Rooney rule of getting more minorities into coaching. But this year more than any other just drives home what a joke the rule is. We had 11 head coach openings and 1 went to a minority.

Yeah honestly the third round comp picks are likely a better rule than the Rooney rule. The NFL is a league of nepotists. Even most of the good coaches had to know someone. Compensation is probably more likely to incentivize coaches to bring on more minority coordinators, which will slowly create a bigger pool of head coaching candidates.

What if they gave 1 pick for a guy promoted to HC and then added that you get one for a guy promoted to OC/DC/STC? Seems to me that gets the pipeline going better than the current set up.

I think that's a great idea. Like you said, the water has to come from the well. So extend the pipeline a little further. Even if you get a comp 5th for one of your defensive backs coaches moving up to someone else's defensive coordinator or something.

Agreed. How about a fourth-round pick for minority OCs/DCs/STCs that are poached? I personally wouldn't mind if that was the case.

Assuming Scheelhasse gets the OC job, as many of us expect, I wonder if McVay extends Kingsbury an offer as an Assistant-HC / Pass-Game-coordinator. This idea assumes Kingsbury does not get a good OC offer.

Brings in a new, experienced offensive mind, while also providing a friend a short-term/high-profile life-line.

IIRC he offered him something like that before he took the Commodes position. It would fit his MO. He did it with Olsen too but I think Kliffy could still get an OC job.

Agree. Kingsbury has interviewed for the Giants' OC job under Harbaugh.

That would be a better opportunity for him but I don't think there are many others.

Interesting. I wasn’t aware of that detail. I thought it was simply your job title. Hence sometimes guys getting an assistant coordinator / HC title.
Cant block an assistant from taking a coordinator job
And the Rams had an OC who left to be an OC elsewhere so he could call plays, that was Matt LaFleur

I think you can block it because it's not technically a promotion, even if you take on more duties. This happened with Kevin O'Connell. Rams blocked him from making a lateral move (probably because they learned from what happened with Matt Lafluer).
Nate isnt OC he's an assistant coach and can take an OC job that the Rams cant block

I'm surprised the compensation thing isn't working better than it is. If I were a HC or GM, I'd be looking far and deep for the Nate Scheelhaases of the world. Why not make your team a pipeline and have extra 3rd round picks every year?
