All you gotta do is just buy the ticket: working for free your first year, 18k for 2-3 years, apprenticeship for 4-10 years (in a new city every 2-3 years - you really only start making 6 figures in the last 1/3 of that time), 100 hr weeks (most likely 16 hour days) during all that time, sleep in office half the week, unimaginable stress, 70% chance broken family and children with major behavioral issues.
Oh, and you still may not get that job in the end.
Or firing coaches and GMs every year or every other year. You need some consistency to establish a system.Or being too cheap to hire the right people.
The prob wasn't Morris adding a young QB for the future. That is a completely understandable decision given that Cousins is a weak armed bridge QB you can compete with.I don't know who's fault it was, the GM or Raheem, but signing Cousins to a huge deal, then drafting Penix #8 was bizarre. It basically created a QB controversy from the get-go for Raheem and nobody should go into a HC job with that out front.
Flores in LV?
Is Flores getting a total free pass for his work with Tua or what?
I mean, sure, Flores "has changed", sure, right? Mendoza is better, too, right?
But someone needs to ask, considering LV is grabbing Mendoza.

Tua Tagovailoa ripped ex-Dolphins coach Brian Flores while answering a Mike McDaniel comparison question
If you ever wondered why Tua Tagovailoa looked completely lost to start his NFL career, you probably should've started with the coaching. Well, or lack thereof. During a Monday morning appearance on The Dan Le Batard Show, Tagovailoa discussed the main difference betweensports.yahoo.com
The thing is, Tom Brady was a sixth-round draft pick who was behind Michael Bishop on that initial depth chart - i.e., no pressure, no expectations. Mendoza has the spotlight and expectations right up front. I guess we'll see, but it's the same LV brass that signed off on the big-money contracts for Petey and Chip.it's how tom brady was coached and it's how he wants his QB coached... sounds like Mendoza has the makeup to deal with it too... or at least that's what the LV brass think

Which passes for good coaching these days?Flores was 100 per cent about Tua. He doesn't belong in the NFL.
"There are no two words in the English language more harmful than 'good job'."
Disagree. You would be correct IF Atlanta looked at Cousins as a bridge QB. Bridge QB is your (and others) term for Cousins. The Falcons certainly didn't look at him that way.The prob wasn't Morris adding a young QB for the future. That is a completely understandable decision given that Cousins is a weak armed bridge QB you can compete with.
Where Morris went wrong was pushing the kid into the starting role before he was ready. Because the team lost with him, and we saw down the stretch what a focused Cousins could do. The moment they went back to Cousins I had a feeling our pick was gonna get fucked up, because he's a low end talent but also a scrappy sumbish back there.
That four in a row with Cousins sort of felt like a dagger in Morris. Like a "look what we could have been if this idiot hadn't started the kid" type deal. And of course this is very much from the outside as a casual when it pertains to Atlanta since I don't watch or follow them.
Have you read up on that situation?I ain't even from Cali...but the way Pete Carroll RAN out on USC knowing he engineered that mess, has NEVER set well with me.
I HAVE NO RESPECT FOR THE MAN, UNTIL HE OWNS UP TO IT!!!
I agree with all of this, however I dont know who's call it was to sign Cousins and/or draft PenixDisagree. You would be correct IF Atlanta looked at Cousins as a bridge QB. Bridge QB is your (and others) term for Cousins. The Falcons certainly didn't look at him that way.
He signed a four year, $180 million contract with the Falcons on March 11, 2024. Cousins received $100 million in guarantees. His 2024 and 2025 salaries were fully guaranteed and he received a $50 million signing bonus. There are $10 million roster bonuses due on the 5th day of the 2026 and 2027 league years.
You don't sign a bridge QB for that money and terms. You certainly don't sign a guy to that money, then draft his replacement with the #8 pick in the draft. Idiotic. The idea of drafting a QB high like that is getting him into the lineup and not having to pay him for 5 years.
Of course if the Falcons had gone 24-10 the last two years Morris would have got away with it. But they didn't. 16-18 isn't going to cut it. And the way it was handled....benching Cousins.....made it worse. They benched him for the last 3 games of the season during their playoff hunt......after a win (7-7) in which he was asked to pass just 17 times. They were holding the tie breaker with the division leading Bucs (8-6) at that time. That screams mismanagement!!!
Bad move 1. Drafting Penix at #8 after spending 180 mil (100 mil guaranteed) on Cousins. They would have done themselves a greater good passing on Penix and drafting Bowers and teaming him with Pitts, London and Mooney. I know, genius hindsight but substitue anybody for Bowers instead of Penix.
Bad move 2. Benching their 180 million dollar QB during a playoff run, after a win at 7-7. In my opinion the benching would have been fine....they won that first game in spite of Penix that tied them at 8-7 with Tampa.....had they put Cousins back in the next week.
Bad move 3. Going 16-18 over 2 years with Cousins going 12-10 and Penix 4-8.
hey, I'm not arguing right or wrong here either! The thing is, Tom Brady was a sixth-round draft pick who was behind Michael Bishop on that initial depth chart - i.e., no pressure, no expectations. Mendoza has the spotlight and expectations right up front. I guess we'll see, but it's the same LV brass that signed off on the big-money contracts for Petey and Chip.
I'd be ok with Morris coming back if Shula leaves. I think Morris is a good coach. Falcons FO is a mess right now, and I think his firing is just him getting caught in the crossfire. If Shula leaves for a HC gig will the Rams try to bring Raheem back? kinda mixed on that...........
But sucks for Raheem, shoulda got a 3rd year after this years finish.
