Because I want fresh leadership with those corners they're bringing in. Also I don't think Pleasant and Shula are a strong combination.
Isnt that why they hired a DB coach? Pleasant hasnt coached the DB's in a couple years

Yeah I think so. I've alluded to this numerous times over the past year or so as well. I think they had shitty corners of course, not excusing the players, but they didn't exactly have what I'd call great coaching in place which feels like an oversight by McVay and Shula.

The way this secondary broke down leaves a bad fuckin taste too. So nothing against Pleasant, but I prefer he moves on to some new and amazing challenge.

I dont understand why you're blaming Pleasant who wasnt coaching the DB's in 24/25

I'm not blaming anyone. As I said I don't think the combination of Shula and Pleasant are all that good. I think the Rams can do better. If you disagree no sweat.

I just dont understand what Pleasant has to do with the DB's, he didnt coach them for the last 2 years

I think Shula is weak in his secondary knowledge. He had one year in the secondary under McVay and it was a disaster of a season. So as I have said twice now, in combination I don't think he and Pleasant are ideal.

Now you can take it as I am blaming Pleasant. But that's not really accurate. I think I have a good read on Pleasant, he's a solid secondary coach but if they want to give themselves the best chance I'd be looking for someone else to call the back end who has an edge to them in that regard.

I would liken this to when Coen moved on. There was nothing wrong with Coen. McVay just wanted a better coach in there. And Coen emerged from that just fine.

He calls the fucking secondary.
I thought he was the passing game coordinator/ asst HC and wasnt involved with the D anymore.
My mistake then
Glad we have a DB coach coming in and will know exactly who to blame. Lol

Honestly hard to say but to me both Pleasant and Jimmy Lake have an accounting for some of the CB issues. Not sure to what extent because we don't know exactly what each was responsible for. Granted I've never been a Lake fan fwiw so I'm biased against him.
Yeah and again I have been on about this in the past. I think there are two separate issues at play here.

The first is that McVay set his CB room up to fail with the way the staff was stacked. Lake was in a QC type role, so it's not like he was positioned to make a difference in that equation and was only on staff one year. Pleasant had the pass game planning side and I assume Beake was the one running both the safety and corner rooms because he was the sole DB coach. Bottom line was we didn't have a corner coach with real experience or background, and that wouldn't be an issue if it wasn't for the general inconsistencies and eventual failure of the entire room.

Second issue is the strength of Shula and Pleasant in combination. Shula is not Morris, he's still in his learning curve. Dude does a lot of good things with the D, but I presume he relies on Pleasant heavily. And Pleasant is similar in that I don't think he's an expert in calling the back end. He got axed in Detroit and probably for some legit reasons. But the two in combo I think is an area the Rams could do better. Again to me it's not really a "let's blame Pleasant" thing. Rather it's a "Shula isn't going anywhere" acknowledgement so why not find a better combo.

We'll see how the moves all settle. I'm not calling for Pleasant to be fired or anything. I don't think he's terrible. I think we can do better. So we'll see if that happens and if not hey no worries.

I have issues sometimes with the technique played by the Rams' cornerbacks.

If the CB is in good position, there is no reason to put your hands on the receiver. Durant got called for just that on a 2nd-and-seven with 2:17 to play in the NFC Championship. Last good opportunity for the Defense to get off-the-field to give Stafford and the Offense one last chance.

I also get frustrated that the Rams' CBs rarely are looking-back for the ball. Officials allow a ton of contact if the man in coverage is simply trying to look-back over his shoulder.

I see these things as technique, and wonder how effective was the coaching.

Don't know who on the staff ... Pleasant, Lake, recently let go assistant coach Mike Harris ... someone else? ... all of them? ... would have been responsible for teaching technique. Maybe they did a good job and the Rams' cornerbacks were generally poor students.

No idea. Just know that I did not like the result on the field. Glad (hopeful) McVay brought someone in.

The newly hired DB coach (Michael Hunter) was complimented by both Caleb Downs (elite prospect) and Davison Igbinosun (top-50 pick) for his ability to coach and communicate technique. Got my fingers crossed.

For me I can't separate out Lake with this so I'll disagree with you on this one. In fact as a defensive assistant I think he has as much if not more of a factor in the secondary than Pleasant as assistant HC and pass game. Pleasant has more than just CB/S to work on. Lake is a defensive assistant those guy work at the DC/HC discretion and with both Lake and Pleasant having a DB/CB background I'd personally bet Lake was the one who was supposed to work with CB. Not lessening anybody's responsibility here just think Lake is more of a CB focus in coaching than the other two.

Pleasant started out as DB coach and Pass game coordinator so guessing that is defensive pass game coordinator. Before the start of last season his DB coach title was changed to Asst HC and we brought in Lake. While Lakes title doesn't say DB coach the timing to me seems to imply that Lake took over Pleasants DB role. And now we've hired outside the team for a CB coach.
