So, this seems super simple to me.

If a coach is under a head coach, that coach is on the head coach's tree. Doesn't matter if the coach was a prior head coach.

Looking at the McVay/Morris issue, if Morris was not part of McVay's tree, then what was Morris?

If not a branch of McVay's tree, was Morris his own plant while with the Rams...maybe one with daises? :woozy2:

Morris learned in Tampa under Dungy. Plus he was already a head coach. Coen isn’t under Todd Bowles tree.

True, but let's expand on your point there.

Tampa did "fire" Morris, and later Atlanta let him walk. So, when Morris arrived in LA he was a tarnished coach, with terrible season's under his head coaching watch, mainly referencing his time in Tampa.

Fast forward 3 years, McVay repaired the damaged goods that was previously a fired, losing head coach. Therefore, it seems McVay revived Raheem during his 3 year tenure with the Rams.

The question then is, was Raheem a branch with no leaves who turned into a thriving branch full of leaves on McVay's tree?

Or was Raheem his own little plant all by himself with dead flowers that, I guess, watered himself, added fertilizer and pesticide, and all by his lonesome grew back the daises and again became a top sought-after head coaching prospect?

Anyway, there's some further thoughts on that!

McVay gave him a chance but I never heard anything about him having a reputation as being headed out of the league

I like the idea of the Ravens philosophy being added to Shula's repertoire. He came up within that org with 12 years there soaking all that in.

But his firing coincided with the promotion of the ILB Coach MacDonald to DC. Which is interesting. I don't think he was a finished product by any means, and his firing could just have been poor timing. Also I didn't look to see the roster changes before and after that season where they dipped so badly but I am sure there's a story to be had. Either way here's his unit production as the OLB Coach (pressure percentage):

2020 Ravens OLB Coach 26.8% (4th)
2021 Ravens OLB Coach 23% (24th) <--Ravens defense overall dropped to 19th
2022 Giants OLB Coach 24.3% (4th) <--Giants were 30th the previous year
2023 Giants OLB Coach 20.9% (18th)
2024 Patriots OLB Coach 21.8% (18th)

He is certainly inheriting quality edge players in LA. If he can get Young to show more consistency and grow this duo he'll have a shot at a DC look.

Ok. But, you're not implying I said his reputation had him heading out of the league. I said he was a fired head coach, and damaged goods as a "head coach" is all. And, looks like McVay revived him...lol!

Nah, he still had a good rep as a potential head coach. If he was personally coaching McVays offense instead of hiring a McVay offensive coach then maybe.

If Belichick came back and was DC for McVay for three years and got hired as a head coach would he be part of McVay’s tree?

Well, I would definitely not think of Belichick as his own separate pot of daises, that's for sure!

Not to mention I don't see Moore as particularly skilled as a gameplanner. Never know of course, he may be ready to do the job and maybe Sirianni held him back. But I think this year's Eagles team got carried by that defense and Saquon.

But I agree New Orleans is a fuckin train wreck. They need a patsy hire to rebuild under and lay the blame on. Moore's about to feel a little pressure... :laugh3:
