How have I not heard of this movie! Wow, might just sit down and watch it tonight!

If you haven't read the book I highly recommend it.

Saving Private Ryan... The landing scene was something else at the time it came out... I remember being at the movies and thinking if this goes on much longer I'm going to be sick... I also really enjoyed greyhound... Another take we rarely see of the battle of the north Atlantic. There is also hacksaw ridge which for me managed to demonstrate the horror of the conditions American troops had to deal with in the Pacific campaign...it was tough to watch

With Overlord, the thing to note is that it's both a war movie and a horror film. Think Wolfenstein, if you've heard of it.

Heard of it, played it, beat it! Thats what has me so intrigued! I went and found the trailer and it

Troy is terrific

300 has its place

Uh....can we include LOTR? I mean there was a massive war going on. Lol
Troy is awesome 1st hour or so, just didn't care for the ending, still a Great movie.

300 is also a very very watchable movie. History has it the Spartans had about 7000 troops and about 2 thou or so at the pass. IT'S called 300 because that's how many Sparta were there

It doesn't include Allies that were also there. Still they did an Awesome job, 7 thou against 100 to 150 k,that's beating the Hell out of some odds.

There's an underrated war/horror movie called "Overlord". The plane scene is extremely intense, almost as intense as the Saving Private Ryan Omaha Beach scene.

Is it unrealistic (integrated armed forces)? Yeah. Does it do its job as a horror/war film? Hell yeah.

You've always have good insights and never seen Overlord gonna watch it soon.

Thanks.

Think WW2 and zombies mixed together. It was an excellent movie. Hope you enjoy it!

Never mind, his son didn't die. I'm certain that another famous author's son died in WW1, but I'm not sure who the author is.

Rudyard Kipling's son, that's it. World War One was arguably even more brutal than its successor: trench warfare, new forms of mustard gas, mortar shells, etc. It's almost impossible to imagine people living through things like that.

Lotta great movies listed here so I’m gonna throw in a couple I haven’t seen mentioned:

Das Boot: an inside look at a german sub after the allies figured out how to hunt them down. Those subs were not nearly as sophisticated as they are now. Very tense.

Boys in company C: an oldie, but it takes you from a bunch of guys from all over going into the army. Follows them from boot camp through Viet Nam. It does a great job of showing the nonsense of the whole affair while guys are trying just to survive it.

Force 10 over Navorone
Dunkirk
Tora Tora Tora
Thin Red Line

Is TAPS a war movie?

Just an FYI - the idea of Hogan's Heroes was probably based on someone seeing Stalag 14
