Never got the disdain for Barrón the last few offseasons. Guy produces and produces well at that.

With that being said I think after this season he is most likely a cap casualty due to money saved by cutting him. We have some nice cheaper younger options that hopefully step up by then.

I agree, he gets no love.

I'd keep him if he can stay healthy this season. If he's inconsistent and only plays half the games then yes I'd say we need someone we can count on. But I wouldn't add another hole to the LB core if we don't need to. Also remember when it comes time to resigning him his injuries will play a big factor in how much he cost the Rams. If we can get him for a discounted rate I would be tempted.

Hard to knock the guy who has the most tackles as a Ram on the whole roster.
JL55 did also and we sent him packing. Barron is good, but he has the second highest cap hit for an ILB this year. He’s not that good imo.

Barron excells in LB pass coverage, he also is a terror vs mobile QBs

Not so easy to replace, I have a hard time naming another LB (at this point) on the roster that is even remotely close to his particular skill set

I don't think we have seen the last of release 7th round selction ILB Travin Howard yet. My thoughts that once he is heathty.... he will be signed back later this fall to the Practice Squad to serve this team in the future. Presently the Rams do not have any LB'er on the PS.

I believe that Wade feels that a healthy Barron is the perfect starting weakside interior LB for his Defense. When Wade moves fast to his preferred NIckle....Barron's value becomes even more vital to Wade. With only 2 LB'ers behind the DL Barron is outstanding on reading routes, making plays on the ball with great instincts. He is also a proven sure tackler who can cover like a playmaking safety. He has lined up & played WSLB/SSLB/ILB/SS/FS & CB....that says something of his great versitily.

Ramik Wilson can hold his own in the Rams 34 D but when Wade moves to the Nickle Wilson becomes a liability. So we just see Wade remain in the base 34 D longer than usual if Barron is out. I would look for Wade to use a 4-1-6 Dime with Littleton as the only LB & utilize his four excellent Corners in place of Wilson .....
I should have mentioned this......Our 7th rd seelction Travin Howard was placed on the IR on 9-2-2018. That thats two LB'ers of this yrs draft that we might see later on { ILB Howard & OLB Okoronkwo}.

It is extremely frustrating to have players with this much talent but seem to be hurt all the time. Don't get me wrong I love Barron, when he is on the field, but if he is not on the field how much is he helping the team.

FWIW I liked when the Rams signed Ramik Wilson and felt he played well in preseason. Barron is an asset in coverage, however, I trust Wilson and believe he would be stronger against the run.

Ramik is no dummy is was a very good FA pick up. I am sure the Rams Org knew fully there is a ONGOING health issue with Mark Barron & went out & got the needed insurance this off season. They drafted two inside LB'ers & was quick to sign another. Besides the Ramik Wilson get, they still have Cory Littleton who played the Barron position very well, who can slid over. Bryce Hager can fill the Cory Littleton MLB post without much of a drop off at this stage in his young career. Finally Rams know that they have a serious "run stuffer" in Kiser too.

Rams-Raiders injury report: Mark Barron DNP again, coaches 'concerned'

https://theramswire.usatoday.com/2018/09/08/nfl-rams-raiders-injury-report-mark-barron-week-1/

“Concerned, yes. We’ll see. Obviously, we don’t play till Monday,” Phillips said regarding Barron. “He’s coming off of two surgeries in the offseason, so obviously we’re concerned about him being ready”

“Yeah, it’s kind of one of those things that’s day-to-day. It was similar to last year – where dealing with a couple different things – the main issue right now is his Achilles. It’s something that sometimes you feel really good and then out of nowhere it might flare up,” McVay said. “So, what we’re doing is we’re just taking it a day at a time. He wasn’t able to do anything yesterday. :shocking: But, to say it’s a concern, is fair for sure.”

Man I don’t want to be negative but if it’s an Achilles thing and it’s already bothering him he might not be playing much this season. Which is a shame bc I love Barron and he’s a big part of this defense.

If Rams have the season we are expecting, and Wilson play a well, he will likely get a nice deal elsewhere and get us another comp pick. Maybe just a 5th or 6th, but likely another pick. I don't see the Rams going out and spending on other FAs too much as they need to sign some of their own. Plus they seem to now strategize to assure that they get comp picks.

Mark Barron's Achilles injury could be an issue for the Rams all season
By: Cameron DaSilva
https://theramswire.usatoday.com/2018/09/12/nfl-los-angeles-rams-mark-barron-injury-achilles/

The Los Angeles Rams were only down one starter due to injury on Monday night against the Oakland Raiders as Mark Barron was unable to play due to an Achilles injury. Missing the game wasn’t a big deal, but the reasoning is certainly concerning. It’s not that Barron suffered an injury in practice or training camp prior to the game. He didn’t aggravate one of his many ailments from last season. It was simply a matter of him not being recovered from an injury that bothered him late in 2017.

No one’s doubting his toughness. He played through Achilles, shoulder, thumb and knee injuries last season, undergoing surgery on his shoulder this offseason. He was beaten, battered and bruised toward the end of the 2017 campaign, and clearly, he hasn’t yet recovered from the Achilles issue. That’s a major concern moving forward, especially after hearing Sean McVay discuss Barron’s availability for Week 2 on Tuesday.“It’s tough to say. He’s kind of day-to-day right now. It’s such a tough thing as far as being able to really project and predict what he’s going to be able to do. Whether he’s going to be available or not right now, I think is definitely questionable,” McVay said. “I’ll probably have a little bit more information on that as we go forward.”

Barron didn’t practice for the first time until Aug. 20 after missing all of training camp. He sat out the entire preseason and didn’t take the field once in practice prior to Week 1 against the Raiders. He wasn’t even limited after McVay said for weeks that he was on track to play the season opener. Again, this isn’t a question about toughness or mental strength. No one is knocking Barron for sitting out Week 1. It’s the nature of the injury that’s so worrisome. The unpredictability of the injury puts the Rams in a difficult position because, as McVay said, Barron could be feeling good for a week and then terrible the next day.

“It’s something that sometimes you feel really good and then out of nowhere it might flare up,” McVay said last week. “So, what we’re doing is we’re just taking it a day at a time. He wasn’t able to do anything yesterday. But, I think that’s something that will be determined later on in the week. But, to say it’s a concern, is fair for sure.”This seems like it’s going to be a week-to-week thing for Barron all year long. He might practice one week and sit out the next. He might play three games in a row, suffer a flare-up and miss the next two starts. There’s really no consistency with this sort of injury, which makes it so difficult to manage.

Barron was supposed to be the only returning starter at linebacker this season after a complete overhaul of the position, but even he isn’t certain to play this week or the next. You hate to speculate, but what is there to suggest he’ll play anytime soon? For the time being, Ramik Wilson will replace Barron in the starting lineup. He’s a capable player with starting experience, but he doesn’t provide the same pass coverage that Barron does. Micah Kiser could get a chance to start, but he’s more of a run stopper than a rangy coverage guy.

Reading between the lines of McVay’s comments and seeing Barron sit out every practice last week after returning to the field in August, it’s easy to get worried about when he’ll actually play. McVay doesn’t sound confident it’ll be this week, but who knows if it’ll even be Week 3. The following week, the Rams take on the Vikings at home on Thursday night, giving Barron another short week with which to work. There’s no telling when he’ll return, which is a real concern for the Rams.

I still can't believe they didn't insist on a restructure of his crazy high salary.

Especially when they knew he was injured and going to miss the first few games minimum and they don't know how well he will recover.

A half a million dollars a game?

I know he's a good linebacker / safety but I don't know if he's that good.

They did restructure his contract a couple of weeks ago.
