I don't think you guys realize how serious a spinal contusion is. I'm sure the doctors told Matt that he dodged a bullet. Spinal contusions can lead to partial or complete paralysis, cardiac complications and a whole lot of other things. IMO it was a wake up call for him and Kelly.
Contractually the Rams have to carry him in 2023. His statement about not retiring said nothing about beyond 2023, it was intentionally vague. I think the Rams want to see how long Mayfield would wait. IMO he won't wait beyond 2024. If Snead wants to keep McVay he needs to keep his shiny new toy, i.e. Mayfield. IMO if Stafford wants to play beyond 2024 it will be on another team. But I think he would retire rather than risk another Detroit scenario. Stafford has nothing to prove and he has career options and a beautiful wife and kids. No way is he going to jeopardize all that.
AD has said he was going to retire in 2024 and I believe he will.
A'Shawn was brought in as a bridge player, and that bridge is complete now. IMO he won't be resigned. Gaines has proven he's a much better player. Yeah Hoecht can play DE but in reality he's a 3T. It's why he's played behind AD.
Larrell Murchison is a one gap 3T with the size to play 1T on occasion. He's another Gaines type of DT. I can easily see Gaines and Murchison starting on the interior DL.
Daniel Hardy has the size, speed and athleticism to be a good edge. But he needs a lot of work on his technique.
The Rams need to get a dominant edge, a true power RB, and TE in this next off season. I think they trade for the edge player and draft the TE and RB.
Once everyone gets back to health, this could be a very good roster. Most of the UFAs won't be resigned.
