I don't think he did enough here or previously for anyone to feel like he's a real starter.
He's a bridge QB, at best right now.. and he has to come to terms with what that means.
One option? Maybe he really didn't have a chance to show enough because of the Rams situation.. stick around and be the backup and hope to get some good reps with this team to show people what you look like in a competent offense.

Who knows, though? I'm fascinated with what happens in Washington, with the Jets and with Carolina. Those are three teams that, with a good, not great, QB.. could be playoff teams next season. I figure Jimmy G in NY.. although LaFluer just got fired.. Carr in Washington just makes too much sense to me.. so, where does that leave us with Carolina?

Atlanta is also a question... Houston.. Colts... Raiders.. Saints.. Tampa.. Titans.

One big Q out there.. where does Tom Brady play in 23? Not SF.. not with Purdy doing what he's doing, imo.. unless he shits the bed in the playoffs.
Tom in NYC or with the Raiders makes most sense if he moves, imo.

So.. there's plenty of opportunities.. and not enough quality QBs.. he'll get an offer, but we don't know what that offer will look like, or how short a runway he'll have.

Well I think this thread is pretty much dead as of now. If McVay leaves, no way we keep Baker. From what Jourdan had said from people close to him, he is/was stoked to be paired with McVay. Why would he stay if he leaves?

Goff with a bit better mobility, not quite as pretty deep ball and gunslinger instincts and dependent on the talent around him.

Goff is better
That's an interesting topic in itself.

While I would agree... Is Baker one of those guys that could come off the bench and faire pretty well?

I think Goff is a better starter and has a better throw. But I think Baker could thrive in a shit storm better than Goff.

Emergency duty? Baker - hands down.

17/18/20/21 game season? I'll take Goff - hands down.

Well that was fun while it lasted, changed my Avatar. BAKER goes the way of Dieter Brock and many others? I dont' see him being cheap enough to keep next year although he'll probably be our best option sadly.

Well put I think. Goff is a better pure passer; Baker is more instinctual.

Goff is significantly taller and it matters.

Look at pass charts for Baker and they're similar to Wilson.. they can't use the entire field.. especially the near-middle.. because they can't see it and read it.

Goff is a MUCH better passer, one of the best pure passers in the NFL. Mayfield moves better in the pocket and maybe gets throws out more quickly and from tighter spots. We all like his combative attitude. Not sure however that he will last as a starter in the league though he may well get another shot at it.

I'm a bit shocked by this debate at one time we were at each others throats at nauseam lolol with Goff vs Stafford and to me it wasn't really a discussion as far as elite arm etc.

However while I absolutely love Baker now as his growth as a person seem exponential and he has been humbled I don't think it's fair to really compare Goff and bake while Goff might have gotten a bit of luck as he was going down for the count with moustache. I think Goff has proven to be much better than baker to this point. As of now are they really comparable?????....Goff to me is much better has accomplished more. I'm not saying it's like H.O.F. type difference but circumstances or not he has been very good consistent now and stable. Things can change quickly but for now Goff to me is considerably better.

I'm shaking my head reading these posts. Two years ago most of these same people were saying much of the same disparaging things about Goff. That he wasn't a franchise QB, etc, etc.

What do you expect from a QB who barely knows the offense and really hasn't time to build trust and rapport with his WRs who were other than Jefferson, second and third string players done behind a makeshift OL of second and third string players. Stafford couldn't do better. But Mayfield did win 2 of 5 games he played in with minimal turnovers.

If he stays he will be a different QB by the end of the season. Once he knows the playbook and the WRs and behind a decent OL I expect a much better QB. Then and only then can we as fans know what they have and don't have in Baker Mayfield. People in LA prematurely wrote Goff off and he has proved them completely wrong. I say again, that I saw enough to know that Mayfield and Goff are similar QBs in terms of arm talent, arm strength and accuracy. Baker's accuracy will improve with a better understanding of the playbook and his WRs. To say he isn't a franchise QB is very premature. What I saw is exactly why McVay is excited about him. Mayfield still has a 10-12 year career ahead of him.

In Baker Mayfield, the Rams traded away a very good QB in Goff, won a Super Bowl with Stafford, and now have signed an equivalent QB to Goff off the waiver wire. They just need to sign him to a one to two year contract to develop him. I have no doubt that Mayfield will be the Ram starting QB in 2024 or 2025. I think Baker will stay because he will know he's wanted here long term. That's why in his excitement he called this "home".

I also think it factored into McVay staying this season. I would be shocked if talks with Mayfield's agent aren't already ongoing. These talks are probably going well enough for McVay to be optimistic about them. Sean will have a shiny new toy to tinker with and mold into "his" QB who will have a long career here. Stafford was always perhaps a one contract signing. He has no aspirations of being another Tom Brady. I'm glad he's going to start this year as it will give him one last shot at a second ring.

The Rams are reloading not rebuilding.

Big picture... I think Goff is significantly better than Baker.

Significantly.
Agreed. Baker has talent, but he still has a ways to go. I hope he's willing to sit and learn. It would do him some good. His decision making and pocket presence both need work. Goff is quite a bit better. People still sell that guy short, which is crazy considering the season he just had.
