Are we really going to judge him on first start against OSU?

P.Manning was like 7-14 for 79 yards in his first start. I get it if you don’t like the hype but I’d rather not jump the gun.
No, but for the Heisman favorite, and with all the hype, you would expect a little more.

I remember back when manning was starting Texas training camp and a HS scout said he’s not a 5 star QB….hes a 3 star with a 5 star name. He said he’d have no chance at the starting spot (back as a freshman) and predicted he’d eventually transfer from Texas.

I thought it might be a slight anti manning take. But I think he was ultimately right. Except
For the transfer thought.
He may turn into a star - maybe even before year is up. But right now he’s all tools but no function. Even his tools don’t look so great except for his size and running. I really hate his arm angle and how he throws (60-75% of the time).

Against arguably the best defense in college football
Right. It’s perfectly reasonable for a QB to struggle on the road in his first big start against a top 5 team.

It’s also perfectly reasonable to expect someone that people are projecting to be the number 1 pick in 9 months to play significantly better.

As I’ve said several times in this thread, Arch is a project. He’s more likely going to be a 2028 draft pick instead of a 2026 pick.

Arch certainly got better as the game got to the 4th quarter. First huge game jitters might have got him. That said, he made some very nice passes in clutch time and definitely has some wheels on him.

Arch homer!

A lot easier to play QB when you’re playing with 4 downs instead of 3 and the defense is playing soft coverage.

Tough game in a tough setting, Both teams have top 5 ranked D's going into the season. Sayin is no slouch either, a 5 star top QB recruit himself.
I don't mind a great defensive battle, I think the high profile QB's and skill position players just led people to think it would be higher scoring.
I think Arch is an incredibly interesting prospect and expect him to be very good by seasons end

If you want to see what a generational QB looks like, turn on the Michigan game. Bryce Underwood is making his first start and absolutely jumps off the screen. Arch Manning is a nice player but he’s not generational. He’s got a long way to go.

Underwood is another one on this amazing list of QB's playing CFB. A true frosh and a national #1.
I am not ready to anoint or DQ either of these guys but I am certainly as intrigued as ever by this years QB's, Just wow.

Some of y’all would give up on Donald the first season he didn’t notch 10 sacks.

Give him the season at least before calling him a lost cause. Just the unrealistic expectations of people are ridiculous. It’s funny to think that any osu QB is a 5 star means anything. See the long list of OSU must draft QBs than totally panned out.
