I like that both 53s have UDFAs making it but it’s more likely most if not all will be on the practice squad and only if they show possible starting, sub-package and/or demon special teams potential

That’s how it is, it’s a tough tough roster to crack
It is indeed a tough roster to crack, I think ST will get special attention and may even keep a player or two who can really elevate the overall performance whether or not they play on offense or defense.
With our new coach and a fairly lackluster performance last season we may see some added priority to ST players alone.
EX: if a WR, DB or LB don't beat out the guy right in front of him for 4th or 5th on the depth chart but is miles ahead on teams, we may see a surprise or even two.

A few of us were voicing our concerns and bringing up the topics in bold last year and pretty much got shot down by the statistics from the other posters. I am glad you brought this up because I actually forgot about these things when it was brought up why our D took such a dump at the last half of the season and playoffs. Mostly the luck ran out. Now I am even more concerned that we didn't pick up a Defensive player with 13. Oh and mitchell cost them 2 TDs. The TD run he got called for holding I think.
I just don't know what defensive player the team could have selected at #13 that would make much difference as a rotational backup as it's doubtful anyone would crack the starting lineup barring an injury.

Some like Bain, but I just don't see him as a good fit. Plus, whenever I watched Miami I came away more impressed with his teammate.

Rueban Bain would be the only potential impact guy IF injuries hit the position. So you can say the same about Simpson if Stafford misses a few weeks. If he has to play two games and can win one of them, that could be huge if it gets them a 1 or 2 seed or just the division overall.

Yet Tru Edwards replacing Tutu Atwell is the only difference from last year's team that lead the NFL in scoring.
Yes with an older Adams to boot. Replacing Atwell with Edwards is a big TBD and most definitely not a guarantee to happen. As much as I didn't like the Tutu pick, he actually has more on tape than an unproven Edwards. I think as fans we tend to fall in love with guys that don't amount to much. Not saying it can't happen, but its definitely a big couple steps Edwards has to take. We shall see. I hope the Rams look at adding a vet or have one on speed dial. Relying on saying we were the number 1 offense LAST year doesn't mean anything for this year by the way. I still expect the Rams to have a great offense but would not be surprised if they take a tiny step back there. Just saying it's hard to be #1 every year.

It sucks Jimmy retired on us. It put pressure on other areas.

Adams is older and Mumphfield, Smith, and Whittington are more experienced and could improve. Tutu is more proven that Edwards, but I'm not so sure just how much that matters given he only had 6 receptions last season. I'd also think that someone like Edwards would have a better shot at being active because he's big enough to play special teams.

I agree that fans tend to fall in love with guys that don't amount to much. But I also think fans also crave veteran names that may or may not really be as effective as developing players already on the team that already know/have experience in the offense.

No. I don't expect the team to be #1 every year. And I understand that last year's results don't necessary mean the same for the following season. I was just pointing out how well a so-called thin group did last year. Not a guarantee for the future. But, it should tell us that success is not impossible.

In the end I question the need at the position with continued addition of receiving TEs on the roster. And if Stafford is a good as everyone says, he's got to be able to elevate these youngsters a bit.

I'm sure Stafford will do his damndest to elevate the team but if Puka or Adams goes out, we really don't have much experience behind them at all. Whittington is really just a JAG, Smith has at least shown glimpses every here and there, and Mumpfield isn't anything special but could develop further. Our best chance for a Superbowl is now. I wouldn't say we need to grab a vet that is a world beater but one that basically is just a solid vet. We had that before in DeMarcus Robinson and you see how he delivered in key moments. That's basically what I hope the Rams look for if they go the vet route. I think it'll be way more telling after training camp if the Rams go after a vet or not. I think this we'll rely on TEs (a notoriously hard position to play in the NFL) to make up for our WR depth is not a great plan at all. I think it's better to have those TEs plus the vet WR to give McVay even more multiple ways to attack defenses. Guess we'll get more answers as the season comes closer.

Don't know much about either player, but here are some athletic numbers.

Thanks for sharing

These RAS scores need to be taken with a huge pinch of salt

CJ Daniels is 6.2. 210 and his RAS score is 6.07
His 40 is better than Fourqureen
His 10 split is 1.61 compared to Hamilton's 1.59, who is 5.10 and 185!
Fourqureen has an elite broad jump, at 8.01. CJ's is 10.03 yet listed as average!
Hell, Hamilton had a 4.26 shuttle, CJ? 4.27!! At 6.2 210!!

Look at the tape, and one thing is for sure, CJ gets open and catches everything, from multiple alignments across multiple programs. He plays to his metrics which is way more important than the statistics themselves

You say that Mumpfield isn't anything special, but neither is a solid veteran. That's what makes them solid. And most solid veterans are JAGs like your claim for Whittington. Sure some may be more experienced, but they are still JAGs. Especially, those that are on the decline.

I have a higher opinion on the Rams roster depth and see them just needing more opportunity to shine. Besides, the team put up a buttload of points in games last year without Puka or Adams. And if both go down at the same time there's no solid veteran that's going to save the day. And an above average to great addition probably offers next to nothing on special teams and takes a bit away from the TE packages. But, again, I don't believe this team should need an All-Star roster to win a championship.

Whatever moves made leading up to an into the season will be the tell, but there really is a chance that the team really doesn't see the WR depth as dire as some looking for a veteran name to add to the roster.

When it comes down to Whittington or McCullough, I see a STs component. Granted, the STs were anything BUT special, so neither should be untouchable in that regard. I just don’t see how difficult it should be to find a KR, which is the one area where Whittington is most visible.

Looking at their actual positions when they get snaps, I see the edge clearly going to McCullough. He’s played well when called upon. I don’t recall him missing a lot of tackles or getting burned in the passing game. Whittington has done his job on offense, but the projected (assumed) increase in multiple TE sets almost makes his role on offense obsolete.

Keeping McCullough instead of Whittington allows the Rams to keep both Edwards and Daniels as WRs.
