I think the 3 game IR is a better solution, I too have thought that VJ may be unavailable at the onset of the seasonGot a ‘what if’ proposition for ya…
To help with the crowded WR room decision here are some thoughts.
Should VJ be put on pup to start the season? It’s a temporary fix, I know, but it does buy Rams a little time which they can use to evaluate WR’s in practice and perhaps in a few snaps on field before forced to make a final WR decision.
About Atwell. Is he really a lock beyond the first few games on this talented roster? He can’t block and he can’t help on teams, two things that McVay really treasures. Meanwhile , McCutcheon, Skow, and Harris are strong team players. Moreover, all the other top 6 WR’s have good size and catch radius advantage ( 2 things that Stafford loves) and Atwell doesn’t.
I guess that I’m suggesting that Atwell needs to really prove himself on the field and damned quickly if he hopes to be considered a top 4 WR on this team.
I just love the talent, versatility, and depth of the WR and CB rooms on this roster. Both are an embarrassment of riches.
I thought PUP is only for players like Lake who have yet to participate in training camp.I think the 3 game IR is a better solution, I too have thought that VJ may be unavailable at the onset of the season
If I am to understand pup vs IR at this point of the season, I may possibly have it twisted. If you are placed on the pup to start the season you must sit out 6 weeks but if you are put on short-term IR you can be out only 3 weeks. If this is right then IR is a better solution. This is based on the 2021 post-covid IR rule change that did away with the limited number of IR tags and converted this designation to be unlimited. Also, A player no longer needs to be out 8 weeks and can instead return after 3 weeks which is better than the 6 for the PUP designation when placed on PUP to start a season. I hope I have this right
I am no authority but I believe that the pre-season and regular season have separate distinctions. Covid changed things a bit. It actually may now be 4 weeks minimum for pup in the regular season. I will look into it and if I dig up something I will post it. By all means if someone has the newest ruling I would like to read themI thought PUP is only for players like Lake who have yet to participate in training camp.
You forgot to sign Odell in that scenario.I
100%
I'd be down to keep Cutch & trade Jefferson for some OL help.
This group play on the OL is always overlooked and you make a great point.I know our OL back ups have every one worried, but i will remind you all how bad we thought Allen was. How un sure of our back ups last yeR after the pre season and then how well our back ups came thru in the covid game when playing along side starters.
Ol is about sinergy. How well they play as a unit. I dont think our OL is a weakness. I trust our coaching staff and if they see value in holding on to more receivers than usual, then im good with that.
They can go 8 on the active OL because that's all they have. All teams can stash OL on the PS.The Rams can go 8 on the active OL because they can stash one or two OL on the PS.
Yes preseason PUP is minimum 4 games missed in the regular season. Only difference is players that started camp on the PUP list can stay there for a certain time, which I forgot atm, but can come off and be fine.I am no authority but I believe that the pre-season and regular season have separate distinctions. Thought that it would have been only 2 TE’s last season, plus extra WR’s.I’m looking at it as total of TE/WR. McVay looks to be rewriting the distinction a bit. Do with that said:
Locks (8): Kupp, ARob, Jefferson, Atwell, Skow, Powell, Higbee, Hopkins
Probable (2): McCutcheon, Harris
(PS): Trammell, Carter
