There are 4 that should be locks: Kupp, Robinson, Jefferson, & Atwell

there are 4 that are intriguing but in all likelihood will never pass 800 yards in a season EVER: Powell, Skow, Cutch, & Harris.

you do not hold on to excess “maybes” just in the hopes one hits. You use judgment and wisdom to choose the best 2. each brings something different and as coaches you must picture it as one piece of the entire puzzle.

enough with 8 or even 7.

my choices: cutch and Powell. special teams and real wide receiver skill set from a small school versus blocking and size/speed measurables..

The others might find end of the roster spots elsewhere, and they may not. I doubt either ever even surpasses 500 yards in a season.

I tend to agree with six. Opens a spot for Jonah Williams and maybe another ILB. Gonna have to make space for Bobby Brown and Tavon Howard when they are ready anyway.

I think it comes down to (1) special teams contributions, and (2) consideration of which players, if exposed on the practice squad, could be poached.

Powell is a lock. McVay basically stated as much when he said he wouldn't have played in preseason anyway when he got injured

After Rams set their 53, other teams are going to poach more than a few that don't make it.

No way it’s 8, but keeping 6 legit WRs and Powell as really a ST return man seems almost necessary because either Skow or McCutcheon WILL get poached.

It’s likely a 21 game season to repeat. Cautious with injuries early means using everyone. Guys who can play STs should have the edge because they will always be involved.

I’m looking at it as total of TE/WR. McVay looks to be rewriting the distinction a bit. Do with that said:
Locks (8): Kupp, ARob, Jefferson, Atwell, Skow, Powell, Higbee, Hopkins
Probable (2): McCutcheon, Harris
(PS): Trammell, Carter

That's not really the way to look at it.

Harris and Skow aren't competing with Clutch....they're competing with the Yeast

This is also how I am looking at it now.

Personally, I'm not counting Powell as a WR at all any longer, although I have him on the 53 as a Special Teamer, also moving Harris to TE to simplify the depth chart.

WR1 - Kupp
WR2 - Robinson
WR3 - Jefferson
WR4 - Atwell
WR5 - Skowronek
WR6 - McCutcheon

TE1 - Higbee
TE2 - Hopkins
TE3 - Harris (our hybrid WR/TE)
TE4 - Carter

Special Teams :
K - Gay
P - Dixon
LS - Orzech
PR/KR - Powell

I sure did not know that our recievers (WR/TE/RB) units were such dire need & a big problem unit in need of an army of reinforcements!

Might not many balls reach their targets in the air anyway when your QB is on his back if the OL continues to be the weakest overall unit on the team.

Jourdan said it’s not a matter of putting a WR or TE designation next to the names. They are just keeping the best players, and most of the Rams receivers block like TEs anyway.

I don’t get listing Atwell with the top three. So far he is just as much unproven as Skowronek, Harris, and McCutcheon. 3/4 haven’t played any real NFL games.

McCutcheon could be an example of a small school player not being exposed to upper level coaching and needs time to completely develop. It would be a shame to let him get away with the potential he’s displayed. Similar to Bryce Perkins last year.

Skow supposedly improved his catching and Harris hasn’t gotten much of a chance to prove himself but has a lot of potential.

At the least, if they keep them all and any show progress, then one could be left to sweeten a deal at the trade deadline or next offseason.

It seems that they are willing to play the long game with some of these extras. I get that it’s not likely that any of them get significant enough snaps to make it worth weakening another position, but is there any comparable developmental talent at other positions?

I agree but it's going to take some wheeling and dealing on Snead's part to solve that problem because i'm not feeling confident about any of our backup guards/centers. Maybe we can snag a gem from cuts but not likely. In a perfect world we trade one or two of our non-starter skill positions for a serviceable OL but that's easier said than done. If we could pull something off like trading for Isaiah Wynn in exchange for a WR not named Kupp/Robinson and a draft pick of some sort would be great... cap would need some serious finagling though.

Why do we have the same conversations every year?
Because It’s easier to search for my response from the previous year and paste it than to have an original thought. To much energy.

I know our OL back ups have every one worried, but i will remind you all how bad we thought Allen was. How un sure of our back ups last yeR after the pre season and then how well our back ups came thru in the covid game when playing along side starters.

Ol is about sinergy. How well they play as a unit. I dont think our OL is a weakness. I trust our coaching staff and if they see value in holding on to more receivers than usual, then im good with that.

100%

I'd be down to keep Cutch & trade Jefferson for some OL help.
