The thing that I hate most about the 9ers is the way Shanny can get production out of nobodies. The guy is gifted. I think he's the best offensive mind in today's game.

And I also hate that the 9ers are scumbags. By that I mean it wouldn't surprise me if they tank in their seasons where they know the talent isn't there. All it would take is a little less effort by Shanny in the gameplanning. This season for example tanking well enough to get within striking range of the top group to get a QB would be something I could see them doing.

McVay is a notch below Shanny as a pure gameplanner IMO, but he's also a better leader, head coach and administrator. IMO he's going to do and accomplish more over the next ten to twenty seasons than Shanny will.

Shanny is clearly a top notch coach. I am not sure if it's game planning. I tend to think it's his ability to implement his system by evaluating personnel fit and then coaching them up. But I may be wrong.

I guess I haven't watched enough Niners games to say with confidence how good Shannys in game adjustments are. But they have a loaded defense talent wise, or did before losing Buckner and Bosa.

Shanny seems to excel at getting his players to execute to near perfection in the run game.
Mcvay seems to excel at play design, especially in the pass game, off of run looks.

Mcvay's ability to scheme guys open and also make adjustments is at an elite level, where he struggles in my opinion is his predictability. For example, screens, Wr quick outs commonly get blown up and overused.
Mcvay has a great ability to project humility and accountability which permeates through the entire roster, yet he does this while maintaining the highest level of standards.

Mcvay's style and strengths project well for long term success. Shanny will need a great defense for his offensive scheme, I don't see that scaling well over the long term.

Read my mind on that evaluation.
I would add that McVay has not hit his ceiling and will continue to get better. like you
said he has all of the head coaching talents in areas where shanny falls short.
Like father, like son. All Mcvay needs is that grizzled veteran mentality that comes with time.
He and Goff both, will get to a point to where they have pretty much seen it all and
become Siamese twins mentally. JMHO

I'm thinking shanny may start out with the quick game Sunday to get "Jimmy Trash"
back in rhythm and slow our rush. As well as a heavy dose of Mostert and McKinnon.

9ers have only been able to muster only 10 sacks so far. The Dolphins were able
to do whatever they wanted. A healthy Sherman would help, but even if he plays
probably not 100%. Their oline looks sad, giving up 18 sacks. AD may be eating steak.

But like you said it is a division game. Standings tend to go out the window.

Not only is it a division game, it's their season. They're done if they lose to us Sunday Night, and they know it. That'd be half their home games played without a win at home. With the brutal stretch coming, which kicks off Sunday Night, this is easily a must win for them. For us, it's sort of the opposite - after Sunday, we will have played half our road games already, and it's our fourth road game in five weeks. I still hope the urgency is there for us and we can find a way to pull it out

Agree that Rams must not underestimate the Niners, or any other team, but I have thought for several weeks that the Niners are cratering. Rams may have to grind out a tough win, we'll see, but at the end of the day imo the Niner's season will be over.

Their luck on every level, all the things that broke their way last year, has reversed. They are being crushed by injuries, but also by lack of depth at key positions like cb. They are picking up cbs from other teams' practice squads now. So far bringing in Trent Williams has not helped the oline which has not been great.

Meanwhile Shanahan himself has disrupted the offense by flip flopping and/or benching all his QBs, one after another, and bringing Garapolo back when he wasn't ready. This is where Shanahan shows his weakness as a real leader as opposed to a brilliant scheme designer. No wonder they have no continuity. Doubt that JG can rally the team. Even worse, Garapolo isn't a championship qb and Shanahan knows it. He will be looking for a new starting qb soon.

The essence of cratering for the year is seeing it coming and still not being able to stop it. That's the Niners right now. They will have the rest of the year to get used to it and hope for a high draft pick.

Very nice point/ observation. I think McVay will have them ready and If their oline plays
anything like they did against the Eagles and Dolphins it will tough going for whoever is QB.
The only concern I have is containing their run game. oline is not good but Mostert can create
on his own.

Can’t wait till Shanny becomes our next OC. Our offense will be unstoppable.

As much as I would LOVE to see a thorough ass kicking, here’s a few things I know:

1) records aside, this is a Rams 9ers game. It wasn’t that long ago the Rams were struggling under fisher but managed to give the 9ers and seahawks fits (if the Rams were reasonably healthy).
2) nothing would do more to get the 9ers on track than a a huge division victory. They’re better off losing to the dolphins but beating us than they would be the other way around.
3) the Rams have historically had a knack for discovering the next 9er hero—somebody who hasn’t been getting any limelight until he has a great game vs the Rams. Remember the WR who took two 90 yard screen passes to the house on us to spoil what started as a beat down? Can you say, “Drunkenmiller?” Even jerry rice was having a disappointing rookie year until he “showed up” on a Monday night game vs the Rams.

Let’s not take this game lightly and beat their ass.

Also remember that game.

Rams rallied in the fourth quarter for a terrific win.

Remember Jack Youngblood on the sidelines (he was injured early in the year or preseason, and would never play again); and when the Rams took the lead there was a camera on him.

Jack gave that great smile of his, looked into the camera and simply said ‘I am enjoying this’.

I couldnt agree more. In fact, your sound and logical advice confirmed my feeling that the rams are a lock to easily cover the spread. Ill be betting big as soon as stupid GA meeting is over.

The Niners have enough talent left to keep the game close going against a bend not break type of defense. This means as it will be all season, the pressure will be on the Ram offense to put the game out of reach. This is the problem I have with Staley's conservative approach. As long as the Rams play a clean game, no crucial penalties, no turnovers they can beat any team on their schedule. That said it's asking a lot, especially when the Ram offense has a habit of going to sleep in the middle of the game. Where is the killer mentality where the foot never comes off the gas pedal not only on offense but especially on defense?

We saw in Buffalo what happens when you combine a soft defense, with lapses in execution and crucial penalties. We also saw in Buffalo how good this offense can be if they simply execute and McVay doesn't outcoach himself. Until Staley learns to dial up the heat on the offense of his opponent and keep it going for the entire game it will come down to not making mistakes on both sides of the ball to win. Staley's scheme doesn't allow for much margin of error.

The run to the Super Bowl starts Sunday night with every game important. This is especially true since only the top team gets the first round bye.
