Believed the used Ipe...a Brazilian hardwood...have used it myself on a few small decks in RI

Yup you are right on the money on both things.

I remember the first time I encountered one of the "ironwoods" several years ago and it was amazing to learn about them and the properties since I have a big furniture background.
