I've been talking to all my Eagle fan friends the last couple of days. They must like me because they aren't coming out and saying they expect a beat down though they can't hide that underlying feeling. I can see it in their eyes.
I've initiated the conversation by asking, "so what do you think is gonna happen Sunday?"
The company line is "oh, it should be a good game but.......
.....I think Wentz will bounce back"
.....I think the defense will show up"
.....I think the Rams are due for a bad game....not a blowout though"
and apparently my most honest friend (I never give him enough credit) said, "Oh I think we're gonna win but it also wouldn't surprise me if the Rams beat us. We looked like crap in Seattle and that's the first tough team we've played since Carolina."
On the other hand, I'm not completely honest with them. After they answer me they ask me what I think and I come back with my company line.
"Huge test. A 10-2 team? Are you kidding me? It's going to take a nearly perfect game to beat them, especially coming off a tough loss in Seattle. And this is a must win for the Eagles. They know losing this game will mean they risk losing a first round bye."....which usually causes them to pause and allow their eyes to say "you've got to be on drugs".
But I guess I'm not really being dishonest. It is going to take a solid effort to beat them. They are a good team but not as good as the talking heads have been leading all to believe. Certainly not nearly as good as their fans think.Though those same talking heads have given the Rams credit, IMO they are even better than that and Philly fans have no idea how aggressive the Rams play. Also, Seattle was the first good team they've played since the Redskins (not Carolina)....Eagle fans never give their division opponents credit either. They've enjoyed 4 cupcakes before the Seahawks game and they got fat and lazy.
I do know this is the most important Rams game in a decade and a half. I'm amped, fully confident in McVay, Phillips, Bones, Goff, Gurley, Donald, Legatron, Hekker and the rest and I'm going to enjoy their complete arrival.
