It was stunning to see how great he was last night after the 9ers game. Maybe he just needed to test it and understand it wasn’t a problem, I can’t imagine they were holding him back for the playoffs.

Finishing runs and delivering punishment along with the slippery moves in traffic was beautiful.

I hope he’s around for many years to come.

I felt before this season started that a healthy Cam Akers paired with Matthew would be almost illegal. Now, even though we lost Robert, we have Matthew, Cam, Sony, Cooper, OBJ, Van, and Tyler. And Cam is still just getting warmed up!

I do wonder if the achillies injury wasn't as severe as advertised, like it was a bad partial tear but not a full tear. I seem to recall seeing that reported somewhere, but can't remember where.
Regardless, this recovery is amazing. We have players on this team who's work ethic is inspiring.
last I read it was a complete tear. There's a great article on the Athletic about it

Have to wonder what Akers' grade would have been if so many big plays were not called back due to penalty. He also dropped that one pass up the sidelines which would have been a huge gain. He played great. No complaints from me. PFF does not always tell the whole story.

Nice to see Burgess graded out highly. He looked good last night. Tons of people on this board have wanted him playing, myself included. Hopefully, this is his chance, and he snatches a bigger role.

Very important that Noteboom can fill in for Whitworth, if Big Whit is hurt. He looked good to my eye yesterday, and PFF would seem to confirm that.

I didn't even notice Noteboom was in there since I take Whitworth for granted

And if I didn't notice Noteboom - that means he played great

Yeah Whitworth didn't play again after halftime. I think (hope) he just tweaked his ankle and it was obvious on the holding call he had at end of first half that he couldn't plant his weight on it because it buckled on him pretty easily forcing him to commit the hold. I think, wisely, the Rams decided there wasn't a point in risking it since the game was already out of hand in their favor. Hopefully a week of treatment gets him ready to go. But yeah, it is a huge asset to have a starting caliber LT able to take over and play well.

I would love to see what that Dr. that was claiming Akers coming back wouldn't make a difference because there is no way he would be ready has to say now. He looked like the most explosive player on the field tonight. It's unbelievable.
Even though he’s an Internet dr. and his opinion should be taken with a block of salt, no one had come back like this so I was skeptical myself, but McVay and Cam apparently knew something none of the rest of us knew and now we’ve got a guy with fresh legs.

It was a full tear. Jourdan Rodrigue wrote a feature about it and his innovative surgery and recovery.

Honestly reminded me of when Gurley first came back from the ACL his rookie year. Played some in Week 3 against the Steelers but was clearly knocking the rust off and didn't have much room to run. Finished with 6 carries for 9 yards

Then Week 4 comes and he demolishes the Cardinals for 140+ yards. I think players coming off an injury like that need at least one game to shake off the rust and nerves.

I still can't believe he looks this good already!

The key was a new surgery technique protecting the repair and enabling much quicker recovery. Of course, a lot of other stuff had to happen as well.

There were a few on here that were adamant that Cam would not play this season. Adamant. Fall on your swords sucks.

This team is a totally different animal with my man Akers in the backfield. Let's go.
I admittedly gave him a 1% chance if playing this year. I am glad I was wrong and now have a confidence in the running game that has been missing all year despite good production from Michel. One two punch is the key to success in my book.

Don't want to quote the whole article-- you should subscribe to The Athletic-- but here's a short excerpt just about the surgery. There's much, much more about Cam and the rehab.

It's an exceptional piece of journalism by Jourdan Rodrigue. Imo Rodrique is the arguably the best sports reporter in the country:

In surgery, ElAttrache executed a technique called “internal bracing” after initially repairing Akers’ tendon tissue, which meant adding a sutured bridge brace over the top of the repair. The extra support — in theory and also in Akers’ case — helps protect and stabilize the repair site so the patient can begin physical activity much earlier in the rehab process while the underlying repair heals securely.
...
“Instead of having many strings trying to tie the ends of two mops together, you really stretch a suture across from the mop (handles) themselves which really keeps things in place, and you’re not relying fully on those frayed fibers of the tendon.”

That technique, and the doctors’ discovery that Akers’ tendon was extremely healthy on either side of the tear, allowed Scott, Cunningham and the Rams training staff to introduce certain rehab and physical therapy techniques into Akers’ routine much earlier than usual while simultaneously preventing the atrophy that occurs if the tendon and leg have to remain immobile.
....
Akers was out of his protective boot and into a walking shoe in about four weeks. The Rams’ team of physicians noted, eyebrows raised, that his gait looked normal as he walked and that Akers’ leg had not really atrophied; in fact, after a couple of weeks, it was difficult to tell which leg Akers had hurt because they looked so similar.

I would love to see what that Dr. that was claiming Akers coming back wouldn't make a difference because there is no way he would be ready has to say now. He looked like the most explosive player on the field tonight. It's unbelievable.

Pro Football Doc: Dec 23, 2021

I'm waiting for this doctor to post a follow up video.

Here is the video you were referencing regarding Akers return.

The doctor was telling us Rams fans that Akers' return was nothing to get excited about.
