Its pretty similar to a few years ago when our own LaMarcus Joyner knocked Teddy Bridgewater out cold. In that case the flag was not picked up. I don’t remember if Joyner was ejected. Its a heat of the moment play and NFL safeties in general are vicious hitters with insane athleticism (especially Adams). Its ingrained in them from pee wee football to hit the ball carrier especially the QB when you have the chance. Wolford has to be smarter there. Goff would have probably gotten knocked out 2 weeks ago on the play where he slid feet first a yard short of the first down. Everyone was screaming and shitting on Goff for that myself included but he actually did the smart thing for his long term health and for the Rams QB situation
Glad you brought up the Joyner hit because I have my own personal opinion on it. It got flagged and rightfully so. But if you watch the hit, Joyner didn't head hunt. It actually look like he tried turning his shoulder away after committing. Still a stupid decision on his part no doubt. Teddy also sold the shit out of that hit, I don't believe he was actually knocked out.

It wasnt a cheap shot man, just unlucky for Wolf. It still should have been a penalty, but once you've declared yourself as a runner diving forward like that against a physical team is a recipe for disaster. I dont think Adams tried to cheap shot him at all.
The rule states that you can give yourself up sliding or diving. When you dive they place the ball where you started diving from. I see the diving by QBs all the time. You cannot do that hit without a flag. Now if he was on his feet and going for yardage by putting his head down, which he wasn't, defender has every right to lower his head to protect himself and stop the runners advancement. This was a horrible interpretation of the rule and the refs new it at the time.

It looked like a cheap shot but I want to give him the benefit of the doubt. Kupp patting Adams on the back while he was kneeling afterwards says a lot.

Undoubtedly should've been a flag though
I have done many things that in retrospect I regret. Doesn't mean I didn't do it.

With all the talk about safety and protecting players, any time a player gives himself up any kind of dive at him is hitting a defenseless player. It should be outlawed and heavily fined.

This ain’t your daddy’s NFL.

In today’s rules that was a cheap shot and the officials jacked up the enforcement.

Did you miss the sentence where I said it should've been a penalty? Because it should have.

That doesn't mean it was a cheap shot by Adams..it wasn't. He even came over to Wolford after to apologize and make sure he was all right.

It was the complete opposite of the joyner hit. Joyner tried to pull out of the hit whereas Adams shouldered Wolford's head as hard as he could.

Apologizing doesn’t mean it’s not a cheap shot. It MIGHT mean he knows he was wrong for doing it.

Officer I didn’t mean to back up over that homeless man with my car after running over him when he approached my car. It’s obvious it wasn’t my fault he got too close to my car. And look at my driving record I’ve never backed up over a homeless man before so can we just tear up that ticket. I’ll send a fruit basket to his hospital room.

His intention was to lay a hard hit that the Wolford wouldn't forget. Nothing wrong with that. There is a danger to doing that and that is besides the physical injury to the target and himself. The danger is, especially when you stop looking at where you are going, is you can mistakenly make a dirty hit. The original intention has nothing to do with final result. It was an incredibly dirty hit.

I’m old school and remember QBs were there to throw the ball and if they did run they got the shit knocked out of them-even if they were 5 yards out of bounds. Having said that the game has changed and I think that play warranted a flag for a shot to the head.

As for ejections I think that’s ridiculous. These guys are flying around at speeds they weren’t 20 years ago. Receivers and QBs put their heads down and sometimes it’s impossible to not hit someone illegally. Whether it’s college or pros I don’t think anyone should be ejected unless the hit is blatant-I don’t want my favorite sport turning into soccer.

To me it seems to me a lot of people are confusing the definition of a cheap shot.

A cheap shot is an INTENTIONAL dirty play to try and injure someone or inflict pain. Its a conscious decision to hurt someone. If you've watched Jamaal Adams the past few years, he plays and hits hard. But he's never been a dirty player.

It was a hard hit, that unfortunately knocked Wolford out based on how he was falling forward. If you think Adams tried to intentionally hit Wolford in the head with a dirty play then you're wrong IMO. It still should have been flagged though, but calling it dirty or a cheap shot isnt what I saw.

He intentionally hit a defenseless player in the head.

How is that not trying to injure him?

I guess it depends on your definition of “defenseless “. To me that means someone laying on the ground not moving. Wolford was diving forward-I mean I’m pissed a guy on my team took a shot like that but when a defender is making a beeline to a guy with the ball and he starts diving what’s he supposed to do?

Wolford’s knee was already down and he was giving himself up, the league has defined it.

What you’re supposed to do is be under control, recognize it and not hit him in the head.

Why can’t the replay official or NY step in and tell the game officials it was a penalty?

That cheap shot shows the need for something like the college targeting rules.

Adams should have been ejected.

Yet they pick up the Flag!!

Look, I just want them to call it the same for everyone. We all can agree that if that had happened to a Brady, that would have been a flag. Possibly ejection. It would also be all over the media as a dirty hit. I know it and you know it. So no mater if you think it was or wasn't based on your eyes or your are old school or whatever, based on that, it is a dirty hit.

That’s straight up Spear from back in the day. Now when he hits him in the head area he should’ve been ejected.Especially when a player is injured like that. Even the Goons in hockey get suspended for pays like that.

I said the hit deserved a flag but if a QB wants to stay healthy you can’t be diving right into guys trying to make a play. I don’t think it was a dirty hit-he led with his shoulder. People say he hit him in the head-well if you’ve started your launch and A guy dives forward there really isn’t another place you can realistically hit a guy except in the head.

I will say this about intent. If I shoot a gun into the air to celebrate a Rams win, but the bullet comes down and hits someone on the head, the intent does not prevent me from being penalized...

Defenseless player giving himself up, hit around neck/head = penalty. It was called. Shouldn't have been reversed.
