Stupid Question! But, If the contract is almost done (Maybe, I read/interpreted it wrong) why will it take a week to announce/finalize it? I would think/hope that AD would like to get back ASAP so he can get ready for the season?!

Rams GM Les Snead confirmed an extension is "close" with holdout DT Aaron Donald.
The Rams have ramped up Donald talks with only a week left in the preseason. Donald's holdout forced him to sit out opening day last year. Assuming the sides hammer out a deal, he shouldn't miss regular season time. Donald's contract is going to make him one of the highest paid defenders in the league. Aug 29 - 5:10 PM

You cant announce until its a done deal but sure feels like an announcement is truly eminent between Friday and early next week. It is still possible but would be shocking if a deal was not completed before the first regular season game.
