"This is not Fantasy Island. You thought this was money for Donald but you need a backup QB and Mack is on the trading block. Now tell me...WHY are you restructuring deals?"

I'm starting to wonder if the Tuesday announcement was timed to monkey wrench Mack's negotiations so that he doesnt sign quickly enough to suit up for the first game. (Under theory that mack is waiting for AD to set the market). Imagine if AD and Snead cut a deal 6 weeks ago and then just kept releasing rumors that AD was holding out for astronomical numbers knowing that Mack wouldn't sign until he figured out what AD actually gets. It's a conspiracy theory, but if they really struck a deal before preseason, I could see AD's agent playing along just to shortsheet Mack's agent.

Always appreciate your Salary Cap insight. It is something I don't understand as well as I would like.

I find it really hard to believe that the Rams are playing grab ass with their franchise defensive player who they are getting ready to ink to the biggest money contract ever given to a defender just to screw with the week 1 opponent - who, by all accounts, hasn't even begun a negotiation.

BTW - didn't I hear about 100 pages ago that Mack and Donald have the same agent? The agent wouldn't let that game get played.

I think you are playing theory against theory. It doesn't appear that Demoff agrees with your theory. I personally think how they work the cap is sound. I also think they work contracts more in ways to account for current contracts in keeping with an assumed cap figure and trying to stay flexible. I don't think possibly being able to hold $4.2 million over Gurley's head for example means much of anything to Demoff. It's not like the Rams would ever save that $4.2 million. They MIGHT get a better next deal out of it and it MIGHT make Gurley think twice about holding out in pursuit of a better contract, but I don't buy that it really carries much weight.

Tyler Bearde's tweet makes no sense, for so many reasons.

Why would the Rams offer a 3 year deal for 55M, when they own AD's rights for 3 years for far less than that?

And do we really think AD would hold out this long for such a small deal?

We've now heard "reports" of an AD deal with an APY of 18M... or 20M...or 22M...or 24M.

So irritating when people tweet out unfounded rumors and gossip....

Different agents, but I agree that it seems unlikely given that all players operate under a kind of bro code that they generally don't try to DNA rifle block each other to the benefit of ownership. But if you think the Rams FO wouldn't try it if AD was willing to play along, you are selling them short. If it were true i'd laugh my ass off (even though fan frustration would have been recognized as acceptable collateral damage).

Forget the Tuesday announcement. McVay has already said he'd need to have Donald for at least a week and half in practice before the first game. Tomorrow or Saturday gives him that, Tuesday does not. Now a press conference 4 or 5 days after Donald signs the contract might be a possibility. That's the only way there will be a Tuesday anything.

Fun idea, but that would be awfully hard to pull off. If McVay were in the dark about this, I bet he wouldn't appreciate the huge amount of stress added to his life. On the other hand, if McVay were in on it, he'd sure have to brush up on his acting skills, being asked about it every day. Remember when McVay was up on stage and heard that Demoff got a phone call from AD's agent, and McVay excitedly asked, "Did they get Aaron done?"

I'm sure the Rams would love for the Mack impasse to drag on, but it looks like that stalemate is dragging on well enough on its own!

Listening to Fred Rogin am570 he was talking of Kevin Demoff's ph call. He said they were watching the video (NBC was there taping the whole thing) of the conference with players when he got the call from AD's agent.

Wondering if one of you internet guru's can find it and post it here?

Doesn't matter if Mack plays or not, Rams are going to beat the crap out of the Raiders :deadhorse:

Well it wouldn't be grab ass it would be a smart move by our FO and AD so the Rams don't have to face Mack in game one. Makes game planning a little easier, don't you think?

They do not have the same agent btw.

Yeah... it was said by someone but wasn't true.

Yes, it was me... or at least mentioned it as I thought I had heard it somewhere. Which obviously was wrong. But hey, we've helped our quest to 200 pages by about half a dozen posts now from me just mentioning it! So what other false rumors can we discuss for the sake of 200?!?!?

But as far as current rumors, from everything that has been said or not said with innuendoes over the last several days I'm guessing the contract is basically done. At this point they are just crossing the T's and dotting the I's while they do some salary cap cleanup via contract reworks. Wouldn't be surprised if Donald is in the building over the weekend even if an announcement isn't made until Tuesday.

I'm sure he's been in on it. He Seems like the kind of cat to come up with an idea like that. I personally love the idea if it were to be true. What a move by the Rams FO if we've had this deal done for weeks but knew Macks deal wouldn't get done until AD's did. That's a master chess player at work right there. but thats all speculation of course...

Is that a small deal? Or is it just small compared to what we ourselves have been throwing around . We really have no idea what Donald's preferred number was
