From what I saw, Donald was scheduled to get nearly $7M this year so they can add another $8M, to bring his cap number to $15M this year. And I would bet, if possible, he may have a $40M cap hit next year so in yrs 3 & 4 of his deal, when Goff gets paid, his cap number is more reasonable.

So getting as much of a cap hit in these 1st 2 years is critical.

Donald is trying to lay low with the media before this signing, but look what my sources report:

Breaking: A large black “woman” with an ill-fitting wig, floral dress and hairy legs just boarded a plane at Pittsburgh International, bound for LAX.

It was noted that she showed “amazing quickness” in swatting away frisking hands of a TSA agent, had no carry-on baggage, and was registered on the flight as “Erin Donald”.

More information, as the story progresses.

Update: The Aaron Donald signing was originally scheduled for this morning, but unspecified delays have pushed it off another day.

Meanwhile, in possibly related news, Pittsburgh International flights have been delayed, due to cracks found in the runway. Passengers have been told to standby while crews work on restoring runway integrity.

Many passengers await in airport bars and restaurants....

If we got him for that the Rams win the front office of the year award.

Depends on the wording of the contract length. A 3 year deal? Again, depends on what the options are after 3 yeas

Public communications is part of my job and you avoid issuing a media release over a weekend because people are busy doing stuff and your audience is smaller than it is earlier in the week. Especially a holiday weekend. Look for it on Tuesday or Wednesday like it was reported.

I am thinking Sullivan & Whitworth retire and Barron getting released. That opens up another $21M in cap space next yr although I assume we lose some of that with Whitworth's restructure.

So that is why I think they can take a big cap hit for Donald next year.

Also, some think we need $15M for Peters next year... well he already counts $9.2M against next years cap, so his potential extension probably only adds 5 or 6M to next years cap.

So I think it can be done. Might mean no Saffold, but it can be done.

IIRC, Rams picked up Peter’s 5th year option already for 2019 at $9mil. Any extension would start in 2020 so no additional (beyond 9mil) cap hit next season.
