Couple of things...
ALL QBs are system QBs. No way Brett Favre does well with the dink and dunk Belichick offense, for example. Brady is struggling in Arians' deep threat offense.
McVay REQUIRES a QB to consistently execute his offense. While he can adjust, the QB absolutely MUST execute the offense. McVay doesn't need the biggest arm or the most mobile guy, but he absolutely MUST be on the same page and make the plays that are there.
May seem strange, but the rest of this season is gonna tell us something. I think Goff CAN be the QB that McVay NEEDS. He's been that at times in the past, but not consistently enough.
However, if the rest of the season looks like variations on this theme, I would expect Snead to seriously put the job up for competition this off season.
Put it to y'all this way... wouldnt' surprise me if Goff isn't where we want him that they bring in someone like Ryan Fitzpatrick to compete
Lemme be clear: I really want Goff to step up and be that Franchise QB that we all want him to be.
That said, this FO won't sit around and waste AD's or anyone else's prime on Goff if his decline continues.
A year after winning OPOY, we dumped Gurley. This FO won't settle, even if it means eating a TON of dead cap.
