We can litigate X&Os all day long, but having witnessed this rivalry for the past 40+ years--Niners historically have been way more focused on kicking Rams ass.

Beating the Rams is fundamental to their identity as a team, a priority for their franchise, and an expectation of their fan base. As much as it pains me, I cannot say the same for the Rams

Stop giving Garapalo any short to medium passes in the middle of the field. If he beats you on the sidelines, then good for him but his comfort zone is 5-15 yards near the numbers, and gets in trouble on the sidelines. Drives me nuts seeing him getting middle of the field passing lanes. raheem, enough. mcvay, step in man.

I am strangely confident about this game. Shouldn't be, for reason of the OL alone. But I am.

Think it is a combo of run defense and liking Jackson at LT, with a little excitement of the Rams secondary returning key pieces mixed in. Plus McVay having a bye week to prep.

This is a big one though. Feels must win to me too.

we have been stopping their run game the last few times we have played - they have been averaging around 3 yards per carry i Believe.

Edit: lookted it up they averaging around 3.5 ypg against us in the past few games... so okay but not crushing us.

The #1 thing I believe on defense is not allowing Deebo to break loose for big plays.

Then offensively the o-line has to do better.

i usually agree with you... but so far this year our o-line can not get any displacement in the run game - too much running is just going to lead to 3rd and long most of the time.

I think our best bet is to pass on 1st down a lot.

IDK, let's stick with it awhile along with the jet sweeps too. If it's not working, then I'm in agreement, but with Allen back and the big guys on the left, lets try to push it forward.

That's the key. If you can't open holes for the RBs with consistency, run those jets sweeps. Not only do they work but they have the same affect on the front 7 having to respect the ground game with a slight twist. The LBs might be less apt to seek penetration like they would against a conventional run game after getting burned by the jet sweeps. So if they're not going to drop in coverage and they're not going to clog run lanes. It might even help open up the conventional ground game as well as the passing game. Can't they also run play action, faking the jet sweeps while Stafford has his eyes on the D the whole time?

Yes. The rams are rinning on 1st down way to much. Also on 1st and goal. Try PA and toss it to higgs or robinson. It will be open on 1st and goal.

9ers do a good job getting upfield on the edges vs our offense and generally disrupting the outside gaps but yeah I am interested in seeing whether we can catch them on some jet sweeps. And if we do that it changes the equation a bit with their ILBs, who generally win vs our backfield. Run them when there's a nice wide hash.

But also the screen game should be helpful. We have been kind of shitty with screens when we face them, given that the way they get upfield vs our OL. And a lot of that is the 9ers being so good fundamentally in their tackling and sniffing out tendencies. They're always well coached and prepared for us. But if the Rams can catch them on some screens and maybe a couple jet sweeps I have to think that rush will slow quite a bit. Hope that happens.

Wondering too whether Robinson can function as a 9er slayer for us. Him being a guy who can still make plays when he's got shitter DBs holding and clutching on him.

Love that movie, once I saw the movie I couldn’t go back to watching the tv show. It was dirty, raunchy, and definitely not pc but funny as hell. After watching Sutherland as Hawkeye Alan Alda was annoying.
Apples and Oranges.

I will still argue, til my dying breath, that MASH is one of if not the best TV comedy of the 70s and an all-timer.

More like apples and applesauce, same setting same premise same characters. The tv show was one of the most watched ever but it was a sanitized version for tv. Never said it wasn’t good just that seeing the movie version of these characters changed my impression. It was a good show in the beginning, then hot lips started wearing makeup and having her hair styled and the show changed.

I can't understate the impact getting Allen back will have. They will have a C to make the correct OL calls. Stafford won't have to do double duty and can focus on what he sees in the secondary. No more excuses for delay of game penalties.

Jackson looks like a solid LT. Aboushi at RG isn't a great player, but he should be serviceable and most of all experienced. With luck, Allen can focus more on support for whoever (Edwards or Evans) is playing LG. Give Stafford time and give them a modicum of a running game. With Jefferson back and Robinson beginning to click with Stafford, it will return McVay's layered passing attack.

Defensively, control their run attack and force Jimmy to beat you. Morris needs to quit playing his CBs 10 yds off the LOS for god sake! Quit conceding the quick 5 yd completions. Don't make it easy for Jimmy, give the pass rush time to get to him. Their OL isn't as good as in has been. Morris needs to play aggressively the entire game not just after they get into FG range and in the 4th quarter.

I hope that Morris gets hired as an HC so they can get a real DC. There is no reason this defense can't be the #1 unit in the NFL. But they have a whimp for a DC who plays scared. If Morris grows some balls the Rams can take care of business against the Niners and get their season rolling.

I gotta give you cred here oldnotdead, you do not mince words on your takes. :beer2::laugh3:

Also I expect we are going to see Raheem start dialing up more blitzes and calling it for these guys to play on their toes. We've already seen it with Ramsey and as the quality of the top guys improves in the secondary (Hill & Durant returning are very big for us) that will free up Raheem to call some shit that requires players to think a little more. He'll be raising the bar on the aggression in the games ahead for sure.

Ironically, it hasn't been the defense that has cost us the 7 niners games. There were a couple of times the defense let us down, the most memorable one is the second 2019 contest when they allowed Garopolo to convert two 3rd and 16's on the final drive. That was Wade Phillips defense and probably the game that cost him his job. The other was week 17 last year when they allowed SF to march down in 1:27 to score the tying TD. But the offense has scored more than 20 just twice and were limited to 7, 16, 10 and 9 four other times. Plus we've had pick sixes in 4 of the last 6 regular season games vs SF. For the most part, when Sean McVay's Rams screw up any game (be it vs SF or anybody else), it's overwhelmingly because of the offense.
