He has been very lucky so far. Has made some great plays for sure, but throws late, across the middle, across his body a lot. That is a losing proposition long term in the NFL.

Seriously, I do expect the TO’s to start soon.

Mahomees is for real - no question.

What I have not seen ONE FUCKING reference to is the fact that he sat one year.
Not one time. Not once. Not a single time.

Also, anyone remember the rocket ship that was KC/Smith last year?

How’d that work out?

Oh btw, any credit to Reid?

Any mention of Hunt and Hill?
(Edit - forgot Kielce).

Nah....it’s all Mahomes. We’ll see.

I've been very impressed with him, myself. He's doing it during the prime part of the schedule when every team has a theoretical chance to make the playoffs. Jimmy G. did his thing in the last 5 games of the season when teams were resting players or looking beyond the shytty team in Santa Clara, or their uhauls were packed and ready for vacations.

DC's watched tape of Jimmy G. and he looked nothing like the golden boy second coming of a football g_d. I am sure that DC's will have Mohomes figured out before long, but his natural skill is undeniable.

That's because he's not a bust/puppet/system qb.

To be fair, their scoring is up - through 4 games last season they had scored 122 points, and this season they've scored 145. Of course, last year they had "game manager" Alex Smith, had faced teams like the Patriots and the Eagles already. Oh, and they added a $16 million per year wide receiver this year. So I'm not sure it's all that clear that Mahomes is a revolutionary addition, or if he's just mildly better than Smith, all told.

Mahomes is playing damn good football, and he has a spark to his play, he reminds me of Deshaun Watson last year (until he played the Rams) Is Mahomes the next great QB? It's 4 weeks in, too early to tell, it will be interesting to see him up against the Rams, both have explosive O's, I think our D is better though...

I also believe that Alex Smith is a far better QB than he's given credit for...

He looks good but it's five games. As for KC i'm far less impressed. They've already been exposed defensively and have little chance of winning a playoff game as is. I'm interested to see how many (easy)points they put on the board this weekend vs JAX.

I get the hype though. Fun to watch, bad defense so they can't blow out anyone which makes for good tv and a QB making plays in a league that likes to create superstars.

I think hes good; the interesting thing with the media in this league though is how the rookie year can create or set "expectations". No ones willing to scream "bust!" or "good player in this league" before the season, but they want to be the first to say it, so they take a super small sample before committing and going all in on their position when it isn't really long enough to evaluate a guy. Look at the lack of love Jared Goff gets in the media because of a sub-stellar rookie year. In their minds he can never live up to pre-draft hype now - he could have a hall of fame career like Brady and be considered a "game manager" or "system QB" - which is code for "not a superstar" when in fact he is - all because of the expectations they set in week 3 of rookie year which they now cannot admit they are wrong about.

TL/DR - Mahomes good. Goff better. Media stupid.

I told my boss at work which she's a Chiefs fan. I will be completely sold on Patrick Mahomes after the Jacksonville game this weekend. If he can beat them then I know he's for real. Secondly if he beats the Patriots after playing Jacksonville tough, he's definitely for real

This is what will happen when you break an NFL record.

Kid is undefeated and this season has 14 pass TDs and 0 INTs. We can take solace that Goff has a better passer rating, and I do think Goff is better than him.

But that's why the kid is getting so much hype - plus, they have won four games - three of them on the road and against decent teams (well, Pittsburgh is not a decent team right now but they have talent).

FWIW, I've read in multiple places that it's him and Goff for MVP right now.

I was listening to my favorite radio show yesterday and they were talking about elite QB’s in the league (up and comers)

The one guy mentioned Goff, Mahomes, and Wentz.

Someone quickly chimes in saying he was fine with Mahomes and Wentz, but unsure about Goff.

The first guy says he was a pro bowler last year and absolutely is an elite QB.

The skeptic comes in and says he hasn’t seen enough of a sample of Goff, but he’s a believer in Mahomes after only 4 games.

I’m just sitting in my truck listening to this like

Watson didn’t play the Rams last season. He was already IR’d before then.

He looks good so far but the way he plays, he's gonna get himself killed sooner rather than later.

So many football writers and fans will write off a QB after just a few starts so it's no real surprise that those same people will crown someone like Mahomes or Jimmy G after so few games. It's not going to change unfortunately.

I don't mind Goff not getting the same hype. He said himself he doesn't care plus hype doesn't win you games.

True. I wasn't implying that he got injured in the game, just that his play before that game was hot and exciting and the press were all excited. Now I'm not advocating that Mahomes gets injured either.

Mahomes has talent to be sure. Reid knows talent when he sees it. I think after that it all comes down to toughness, both mental and physical. To stay in the Not-For-Long League, it takes copious amounts of both. If Mahomes can stay healthy he has a shot. I think he is great right now. I guess the test is how does he rebound off a loss. Personally I think the guy is a winner from what I’ve seen so far. But much can change in the blink of an eye. I don’t wish that on him though.

When it comes to Goff, I think he’s a tough guy. Tough in every way. He’s got superb arm talent to boot. He’s insanely getting better every game. With McVay, he is playing smart. I’ll say it. Goff is great! He’s taken the challenge of his first year and responded so well under McVay. I’m so proud of this overall first rounder. McVay is the perfect fit as coach for him. I believe there is no better combo than McVay/Goff moving forward. Fact. Take that to the bank, my homees.

I like Mahomes i think the kid can play. Like someone said earlier now that Jimmy G went down they have to jump on someone else's bandwagon since they were all wrong about Goff.

We will see how he does against Jacksonville defense.

Anyone notice that after all the HYPE, Goff is NFC Player of the Week and the Rams are still ranked #1 team on everybody's poll.

His ability to make plays off sched is profound and I give him all manner of credit for what he's doing. Playing for a guy like Reid is huge, too.

But at this level you see it over and over and over, where a team milks production from QBs who can threaten the edge and move the chains with their legs, and they start hot and get all manner of hype but cannot stand the test of time. Going way back too, to guys like Randall Cunningham, who famously got insane hype and even had that SI cover with all the "ultimate weapon" nonsense. RG3 was a "redefining" guy too, I mean the media simply loves any QB who can make off sched plays.

My question is how many QBs who don't have primary pocket production have demonstrated they can stand the test of time in this league? When you have DEs who can run mid four second 40s, and defenses getting free shots at your legs and body as the team milks your running ability, I think it's really hard for these types to endure long careers and achieve high levels of consistent excellence.

Again, Mahomes is a fantastic young QB. Dude impressed the hell out of me with that last game. But looking long term, how far can he take things with that play style? The last scrambling QB I can remember playing good ball until he was long in the tooth was Steve Young. But then again if you were to chart his off sched runs I suspect he ran a lot less than some of the other guys and had good pocket protections.
