I’m hoping last year showed him that approach is not always the best way to proceed. The first game they looked over matched and not ready to compete.

I believe units like the Oline need real playing time and competition to get ready for the season.

Scrimmages are awesome but they don’t provide real consequences like game activity.

I know it’s a marathon but, games in September count just as much as games in December. They can’t afford a crappy start against their early schedule this season.

I have to believe there's some middle ground between McVay's approach and it being super risky. I'd like to see the starting oline get a few snaps together in the preseason at the bare minimum.

For the most part, if you average 24 points per game… you make the playoffs.

The roster is mostly set. Have we done enough on offense to do that?

Just be “good enough” on defense… then…

Is it that simple?… Get the offense to 24 points per game?

Imo it all hinges on the offensive line. If Aleric Jackson, Avila, Big Rob, and Shelton are on the field I think they’ll have a decent running game and that will alllw the offense to be effective.

If the line is a flop, then no chance.

But at least they won't have Evans or Kolone on the field.

I know I have said this over and over but Evans was the main reason why we only won 5 games last year

I also blame him for the Green Bay Packers playoff loss.

With him next to Blythe - Goff had no chance on 2nd or 3rd and long.

to be fair wasn't it 10 all at halftime?

they got blown away in the 2nd half.

but i agree they didn't look very good at all in that game.

They have a ton of young OL. He's got to play some of them in preseason. Havenstein, Shelton and Allen shouldn't see the field for more than a series or two. Noteboom probably too. But Avila, Anchrum, Alaric, Bruss, McClendon, Thomas, Arcuri, the two UDFAs should all play a lot.

Hahaha, yeah but also, that's the one thing I don't like about this offense, it's not so great when it comes to straight drop back game which you need on those downs (or you need a QB who can create). Glad to see McVay spent more time on straight drop back when Stafford got here.

One wonders if Goff had gone to another offense if his development trajectory would have looked different. In some ways all the running games and play-action really helped him develop and in many ways it held him back.

I said the following players won't play

Stafford
Kupp
Donald
Jones
Higbee
Havenstein
Noteboom (mostly due to injury)
Fuller
Jefferson

Others that might not play

Allen
Shelton
Hoecht

Others that might not play that should play

Skowrenek
Tutu

Any others that I am missing?
Akers and maybe AJ Jackson. Possibly Bruss and Avila if they impress enough in practices.

What separates the men and boys at QB in this league is being able to do the job without a run game. Stafford is one of the men in that regard.

Definitely, but we also owe him a running game after the pounding he took last year.

Let’s face it. The Rams won a SuperBowl with a top 2 WR season in the history of the NFL from Kupp and the best season of Staffords career. No run game. And the only other weapon was OBJ who was a nice complimentary but not a dominant weapon. We’re still a LT and OC away from the kind of OL needed to establish a solid running game and protect Stafford enough for him to elevate back to a top 5 QB. We still need a true WR2 (or better yet WR1B). I don’t see all of that coming together in 2023 but McSnead are working on it now and can absolutely make that happen for 2024. I’m along for the ride. “Rams House. Let’s Roll!!” (blue font)

No doubt. And it'll be a lot easier to win him another ring with a run game. So I am hopeful.

We need to score more than 22.6 points per game allowed last year.
Now someone did adjustments by removing special teams and offensive mistakes.
But basically the Rams allowed opponents an average of 22.6 ppg.

I believe the defense is probably on par with last year, but will have to see, based on defensive philosophy bend don't break style.
So the offense will need to average 23+ ppg in that case.

I forgot about Akers

I also should have included AJ Jackson in the others that might not play category.

However, I strongly have the opinion that Bruss Avila should be played so those two can go in the Others that might not play but should play category.

Believe me, the Rams O won’t be our problem in 2023. It has been strengthened in every single position group over last year.

QB
RB
OL
TE
WR

In addition, McVay seems revitalized and has hired a respected OC that appreciates the running game.

We will see more focus on TE’s in 12 sets plus passing targets.

I see no reason to think our RB’s won’t have a very big year, too.

ST should be fine. Hell, I’m impressed so far.

The D is a work in progress but D coaching has been strengthened and Rams do have some promising rookies plus AD, Jones, Hoecht, Fuller, and a few other experienced vets.

I see an 8-9 win season that will be fun to watch.

I can see a small uptick here for sure but I'd be wary if anyone thinks there will be a good deal more 12 personnel. Skow will steal a lot of those plays in 11 personnel when he's on the field and I have a hard time believing Allen or Long will be able to offer more than him initially.

Our 11 personnel will most likely have Skow, Jefferson and Kupp on the field a majority of the time. There's a chance that Puka can stay healthy and continue his progress in TC and overtake Skow but it's small. Puka and Atwell will have small packages for them for games.

As exciting as I am about Puka's potential, I can definitely see him riding the pine as Atwell improves and eats up the remaining snaps of 11 personnel when Skows out of the game.

So how are we classifying Kendrick, Durant and Yeast?

Partially experienced vets?
Experienced 2nd year guys?
Partially experienced 2nd year guys?

The Browns, Murchison?

IMHO, the team is a work in progress as it is every year.

That’s a lotta guys competing for about half as many jobs. They would have to play, wouldn’t they? I sure hope they do.
