Cam Schlittler was awesome last night. 6 IP, 13 K's, 4 hits, 0 runs, 8-3, AL leading 1.71 Era (#2 in MLB).

So naturally the comparisons start.

Youngest Yankee to fan 13 since Al Downing on June 21st, 1964. I remember Al Downing well. Famous for giving up #715 to Henry Aaron, he was from my home town, so it gave us youngsters the hope we could make it if we were good enough. The Yankees traded him to Oakland in 1969 for Danny Cater (who was later traded to Boston for Sparky Lyle), Oakland traded him to Milwaukee along with Terry Francona's pops (Tito) and Milwaukee traded him to the Dodgers for Andy Kosco.

Schlittler's 1.71 Era is the lowest for a Yankees pitcher through 16 starts in a season since Whitey Ford was at 1.47 in 1964. Opponents are batting .194 against him. Ford, aka The Chairman of the Board began in 1950 at age 21. After being called up in July, he went 9-1 with a 2.81 Era. He pitched the clinching game 4 of the 1950 World Series going 8.2 innings, allowing 7 hits, 1 BB, 7 K and 2 unearned runs in the 5-2 win. Unfortunately for Ford, he was drafted into the service and missed the 1951 and 1952 seasons. His ranks among Yankee pitchers are #1 in wins (236) ahead of Red Ruffing (231) and Andy Pettitte (219); tied with Pettitte for games started (438); #1 in IP (3170.1) ahead of Ruffing and Pettitte; #2 in K's (1956) behind Pettitte (2020).

But a lot of guys have come up to the show and looked good for a year or so, then disappeared. I really hope this kid makes it long term.

Just making it there three consecutive years is a feat. Winning it three times is extremely rare. I was incorrect earlier in the thread when I said the Yankees (3), Oakland (1) and Baltimore (1) were the only teams to make it to three straight, though Baltimore didn't finish the deal. In reality, the Yankees made it to the Series 3 consecutive years 8 times and Oakland did it twice.

Most of that was before my time. Probably yours too. I do remember the disappointments in 77 and 78. Finally got one in 81 after a shortened season. The 88 season was magical. No one foresaw the Dodgers winning the World Series. Everyone thought the two best teams were the Mets and A's. I remember Jose Canseco saying "Hopefully we'll be done in five". He got his wish. Although they did sweep the Giants the following year.

Do you think the Yankees will ever get another threepeat? I'd say its possible but if baseball ends up with a salary cap it may never happen for anyone again. So if the Dodgers do get that threepeat it may be the last we'll ever see.

The three consecutive WS appearances from 76-78 and 97-2001 weren't before my time. The tail end of the last one before those two 1960-1964 is when I became a fan. And as I pointed out a dozen of those 18 times teams got to the World Series 3 consecutive years, occurred when each league had only 8 teams. That has practically doubled so it's obviously way more difficult to get there 3 times in a row. But hell, the Dodgers have a shot like the Astros did in 2023 and LA did in 2019. Houston got beat by Texas and the Dodgers by Washington in their quest for 3 pennants in a row.

And since it is so much more difficult to win 3 consecutive pennants, it's safe to say the Yankees record for consecutive World Series games won isn't in jeopardy. If you ask AI what's the record for consecutive World Series games won, the answer will be the 1927, 1928 and 1932 Yankees won 12 straight. But that's incorrect. The 1996, 1997, 1998 and 2000 Yankees won 14 straight World Series games. After losing the first 2 to Atlanta in 96, they won 4 straight, swept the Padres and Braves and won the first two vs the Mets in 2000. That feat occurred during the current 28 team league and will probably never be duplicated.

The record for most consecutive World Series games won is 12, held by the New York Yankees.

The Yankees achieved this across three separate World Series sweeps:

  • 1927 Yankees — swept the Pirates (4–0)

In their previous Series (1926) the Yankees lost game 6 to the Giants and in their next series (1936) they lost game 1 to the Giants. So the 14 games won from 1996 to 2000 are the actual record. How difficult is that to accomplish?
 
Man, Yankee fans were so bummed when Soto went to the Mets for more money.

Mets (2025-26): 117-123 (0 postseason?)

Yankees (2025-26): 141-99 (2 postseason?)

I hope he's enjoying that money cause the seasons have sucked.

well the Yankees made it through a horrible stretch of losses and a disgusting win streak by the Sox , managing to stay in 2nd place in the AL EAST.

Still within striking distance to take over 1st, but have a few tough road series in front of them with Philly and both Chicago teams
 
Pitching has been in incredible the last week and great on the season MLB leading team ERA 3.28, need Judge & Bellinger back to start scoring some runs

They need that good pitching with Judge, Stanton and Bellinger out!!!

Over the last 11 games, their starters have a 1.92 ERA. The bullpen not as good, 2.49. They've gone 7-4 averaging 3.1 runs per game!! Keep that shit up (the pitching) and when Judge, Stanton and Bellinger get back.....with Rice, Jazz and the recent addition of Garcia, they should fair pretty well.

And there is probably another acquisition or two today, though I'm keeping my fingers crossed they don't unload Jones, Dominquez or Lombard in the process!!!

Crazy thing is Rodon,Schmidt & Gil have been out pretty much all season too, it would be nice to get them back and get them some starts or middle relief appearances although we may have to wait until next year for Gil

Rodon and Schmidt are both scheduled to throw later this week. Fried is looking good again. So is Cole. Weathers is smelling his spot in the rotation disappearing so he's gone out and pitched well his last 2 starts (0.71 ERA). It's between he and Warren because Schlittler, Cole, Fried and Rodon will be 1 - 4. So those 2 are competing for the #5 spot.

Some people just want the money, Some chase championships. We know what Soto did. Sucks we did lose Soto but glad they are under .500 with him and getting what he deserves.

They were taljing about gis changeup last night. I think it's Fried is back and Rodon is returning soon. He wants to keep that spot jn the rotation.

Thing is - the Dodgers didn't really trade much for Skubal.

Ryan is good. Hope is 27 years old and didn't have much chance in getting to the big leagues and I don't even know the third guy.
