So at the trade deadline Buster Olney said "Yankee fans are going to be anxious". Yeah, maybe those Yankee fans on Facebook. His reasoning was Luis Garcia will help their offense but what they really needed was a right handed hitter (like Heliot Ramos?).
Olney said, "their pitching may be better towards the end of the season".....really? Their starters have a sub 3.00 era since early July (July 9th and the team is 16-9). Their bullpen has been good most of the year, ranked in the top 5. Now that Fried is back and up to speed, Cole is up to speed, Schlittler is Schlittler, when Rodon gets back (in the next week or so), either Weathers or Warren move to the bullpen to strengthen that unit.
I'm just glad they didn't do something assinine like trade Jones or Lombard for somebody who's going to be a free agent next year. They brought Lombard up and like that guy Olney quoted, he is one of the top defensive shortstops in MLB. In his first 4 games, he's hitting .385 (5 for 13), scored 4 runs, has 2 HRs, 2 Rbi, 3 walks, a .500 OB% and a 1.346 OPS, plus he's started 2 game winning rallies in 4 games. Oh yeah, he already has 2 defensive runs saved in the field. Did I mention he's right handed?
Spencer Jones is getting time vs left handers and yesterday he drove in 2 of the Yankees 5 runs with a single and triple off of Chris Sale. When Judge and Bellinger get back they will have quite the balanced lineup and one of the best defenses in MLB. Throw in their starting rotation and a bolstered bullpen and they're in fine shape.
Don't color this Yankee fan "anxious". I'm grateful they didn't do the typical Yankee thing of years past and overspend for overrated talent that will be gone in 3 months, along with their top prospects they traded away. But I guess if you're Olney, you gotta write something, eh?
